I've been looking at other ACC boards and they all have there Season prediction threads... here's mine for GT:

9/1 @ Notre Dame- they are changing to a 3-4 defense and thats the same kind of defense that Taylor Bennett ate alive against WV last year... GT has alot of experience and ND lost ALOT... i don't see how this game is not a blowout... GT wins 45-7
9/8- Samford- this is a scrimmage getting ready for BC...GT wins 56-3
9/15- BC- they have a good qb and a good defense but this primetime game is in ATL... GT wins 31-17
9/22- @ UVA- we suck in Charlottesville but I think we'll get them this year in C-Ville... GT wins 30-14
9/29- Clemson- good god amighty i want REVENGE... GT wins 33-16
10/6- @ Maryland- they want revenge so bad but their not getting it... GT wins 27-20
10/13- @ Miami,FL- we show Nix what a real offense looks like... GT wins 38-13
10/20- Army- easy breezy nice beautiful october homecoming game... GT wins 51-6
11/1- VT- 2 good defenses but i like our offense better than their's... GT wins 26-17
11/10- @ Duke- they will be better but their still Duke and its not '03... GT wins 46-14
11/17-UNC- Davis is a ood coach with young talent to work with but i'm not sold on UNC yet as their fans always have high expectations but they always end up sucking... GT wins 41-17
11/24- UGA- uga's heisman/hall of fame player reggie ball is gone and i think GT wins this one by running the football to open up the passing game... GT wins 38-17
12/1- (ACCCG) vs. FSU- we've never beaten them in ACC play but that's the past... GT wins 27-17
1/7- (NC) vs. LSU- payback from the 2000 peach bowl... GT wins 20-17 on a last second 28 yard FG by Bell as time expires

what are your predictions for the upcoming season?

WOW!!! Boy have they turned things around in such a short time!!

I think this will be a satisfying season, but every year I forget how TOUGH it is to win 'em all.

I like your optimism about the offense, but I think it's a little early to predict 38.5/game.

@ND: ND blows, we win a close one. 1-0.

Samford: Samford really blows, we win big. 2-0.

BC: We win by two scores. 3-0

@UVa: Things just don't go our way in Hooville. 3-1

Clemson: We win in a low scoring affair. 4-1

@Maryland: Another win. 5-1.

@Miami: Mark this down as our annual asswhuppin. We march into Miami at 5-1 with a top 25 ranking and our lone slip up being at UVa. On national TV we proceed to get whipped. 5-2

Army: Seriously? Not close. 6-2

VT: A valiant effort, but we fall just short. 6-3

@Duke: Dook sucks. 7-3

UNC: Commence the swoon. 7-4

UGAy: The usual. 7-5

Bowl Game: We play a 3rd place MWC team or a 6th place Big East team. We suck it up in the first half despite having the obviously better team. We find our rhythm in the second half and blow them out.

8-5. Chantastic. :D

gtfan09 is my kind of Tech fan! I like the way he thinks.

We stab Notre Dame in the heart. Everything else pans out per usual. I think we beat the mutts this year.

GO JACKETS!!!

I will rank the games from hardest to easiest IMO.
1. Dawgs at home - huge mental hurdle to overcome
2. VT at home - big game on a Thursday night. Hokies have talent. We will miss Calvin the most in this game.
3. Clemson at home - great rivalry. Sad that string of close games ended last year.
4. at ND - wish we could play these guys after Michigan kills them this year. They will be "up" for home opener on NBC
5. at the U - we could establish dominance in the series with a win here.
6. BC at home - a good QB and defense
7. at Maryland - Chan is doing better with Ralph these days.
8. at UVA - I don't buy that the Hoos will be much improved
9. UNC at home - I hope the Heels have six losses by the time they play us
10. at Duke - Ted's last year, though not his fault
11. Army at home - would have enjoyed Bobby Ross's return
12. Samford at home - glad that this is game #2, making sure we don't start 0-2.

I think if you lose at South Bend there could be trouble with at least three tougher games remaining and already one loss. Win at ND and I think anything from 9-3 to 11-1 is possible.

We just are not going to rack up points like that. We have few experienced wide receivers, a fairly inexperienced QB, and a good runningback. Defenses are going to stop the run and make us beat them throwing the ball. Regardless, Chan is already thinking and planning on winning the ND game by a score of 14-10. And we'll lose because we didn't play to win and/or blow them out.

I love your optimism GTFan and I really hope you are right.

I see it as:

Notre Dame: Lose a close one
Samford: Win
Boston College: Win a close one
Flex Pack Special: Georgia, Clemson, and VT.: Win 2 of 3
Maryland: Loss
Miami: Loss
Duke: Win

UNC: Win
UVA: Loss
Army: Win

7-5 looks like the record. 8-4 if we can beat Maryland or Miami.
I hope I’m wrong. :fingersx:

Oh but I think we will be able to put up the points. The receivers are new but the QB can get them the ball. I don't think we "miss" Calvin as much as we sit around and play the "what if" game. Last year's QB kind of dismembered our Johnson, so we will not really know how much we "miss" ole #21. Other teams will have a hard time completely shutting down the run without seriously committing. And if they do that we more than have enough experience to make them pay. Heck just dumping it out of the backfield to #3 will make them think twice about committing 8 or 9 into the box. I think our offense will be a big surprise this year and I don't think CCG is going to be calling any of the plays. Coach Bond should have a license to kill and I think he will use it to prove himself in "Bigtime" college football. I don't think we will all of the games because we are GT but I expect to and I realistically think we can.

I was willing to concede your point, until you claimed to know what Gaiely was thinking.... give it a break.

knox jacket, you are about as much an optimist as i am with our HC, without specifics i predict 7-8 wins, lose again to ugag and go the purolator bowl in topeka ks. by the way knox jacket be glad you dont post this on the nerd board, they would send you to abu graib.

Lets see...last time I was this optimistic was after the 1998 season.
However this is a new year...we are deep on the O and D lines. If we dont lose anyone to grades then this has the potential to be a special season.
There are 4 games that worry me.
Game 1: Virginia, I dont care about the "we cant win in Hooville crap"...I am worried about their mobile QB. Mobile QBs always burn coach T's "BLITZcrieg" D.
Game 2: Virginia Tech. The team that put 51 on us is only 2 years removed. They still have game.
Game 3: Of course the mutts...we cant seem to get that dog crap off the bottom of our shoe.
Game 4: The "WTF" team. This is the team we face every year that we should beat...but dont. We faced three last year...WF, ND and the butt sniffers.
All this being said...the potential is there to be a real special season.

I wouldn't call those three teams last year 'WTF' teams. Yeah, hell yeah, we should have won all three, but it wasn't a WTF like in the preceeding years such as Duke, Wake (before they were ACC champs!), NCS, UNC, etc. As such we really didn't have a WTF game last year.

OK...I will concede on the WTF game on that it wasnt Duke and WF of past years...its just we always seem to let one or two games get away. We came close to letting UNC and Maryland beat us last year. I hope we can put teams away without the usual one or two game slip up.

He's judging by past performances. Gailey has typically not tried to run up the score to win. He has played to keep it close and win in the end. It's not a stretch to believe it will be the same this year as Gailey makes the final decision on the game plan (he's the HC - he has the final decision in everything).

I am a FOCer who last year just lost it a little at the end with the QBing going on.

Chan has a lot of strengths that are great for our program. However, he has one weakness that I have yet to see change. That is that he seems to want to win games the NFL way, just one point better than the other guy. I believe strongly that if we had Steve Spurrier instincts (he really understands the college game) that we would have beaten ND, UGA and Wake last year and we would have blown out UNC and others. When you are the better team in college, you have to have the attitude of blowing the other guy out and you'll lose a whole lot less close games.

Four of our five losses were also very close. Sometimes we come out lucky and sometimes we don't. I'm just hoping that we come out ahead against UGA this year.

I'm also hoping that Ball and Nix were as bad as everyone says. There's nowhere to go but up with Bennett and Bond.
