coming up, we need to remember something that is important in my opinion.

We have coming to Atlanta this weekend a group of young potential SA's that could very well lead us back to the stature we deserve among the elite in college football.

I have seen several posts over the last few days about how our recruiting is going. Make no doubt that it is going to be a great year in recruiting, maybe even the best year ever.

We should remember who has put us in this position! Those two individuals would be Giff Smith and Geoff Collins. These two coaches have led a group of young men to The Flats that could change GT football in the very near future. For all of their hard work they deserve a huge atta boy!!!!

Do I think we still need a change at the top? Yes I do. I know many will argue that changing now would hurt recruiting. I just do not buy that argument. Yes, you could lose one or two, but overall I think, from what I have read, these young men are coming to The Flats because of other personnel on the team. I know there could be a couple that come because of CCG, but I just do not think CCG is the closer on the deal for many of these young men. I could be terribly wrong.

If a change is made and these young men are made aware that we are going to go get the very best we can get I think we hold on to them all.

Just my opinion.

Am I right or wrong? I look forward to the discussion!

I disagree............

I follow recruiting very closely. Giff and Geoff have done a great job of bringing our recruiting strategy into the 21st century, by using computers to track corespondence to recruits, using text messaging, and identifying recruits earlier. That said when I read the updates from recruits its clear to me that Chan has been heavily involved and has been the "closer" for many of these guys. If we were to replace Chan, I think it would have disastrous impact on this class as not only would their be uncertainty about what head coach would be at Tech but also a great deal of uncertainty in recruits minds about who the assistants would be.

Right on there. Firing CCG would spell disaster for our recruiting class.

Well, from reading the Scout Insiders stories, I'd say you're understimating Gailey's positive impact on this recruiting class. Almost all, if not all, of our current commits have made specific comments about Gailey. Several kids have relayed stories of their meeting with Gailey with their parents and personally breaking the news of their committment to him. I'd rather not blatantly copy/paste from their stories, but surely others can vouch for this.

Besides, if you fire Gailey, what makes you think you're going to keep Smith and Collins? Sure, Collins has prior ties to GT, but I don't believe Smith does. I don't know of any personal ties to Gailey either, but they must believe in the job he's doing if they're able to sell the program so well.

I follow the recruiting stuff pretty closely...and run into some good inside information. I can tell you that, beyond a shadow of a doubt, CG closed the deal on the majority if these recruits. Almost every recruit specifically mentioned him, unprovoked, as being a big reason they were coming because he was genuine.
The difference is that he has fantastick "lead generators" that are brining top notch recruits in to see what we are all about. Giff Smith, Geoff Collins, BJM, Coach D, and Modkins have done a fantastic job...really the whole staff is contributing as Kelly and Hunter are finding their way.
Whether you agree or disagree with direction...the kids believe we are headed the right way....and believing in a common vision is 1/2 the battle.

Like I said in post I could be very wrong and it seems that you guys have more information and have researched a lot more than myself.

I was not bashing CCG, I just think it is time for a change.

If he has been the closer on several deals then I he does deserve credit. I just hate, as all of us do, getting our asses kicked in games we should dang sure.

It is frustrating to see good talent not reach potential.

I stand corrected on my post for being wrong and ver much appreciate the input from fellow GT fans.

If you could please give me a couple of links where I could read some of the input from our future SA's.

Thanks again for your input and I look forward to hearing more from you guys as well as other GT folks.

Do you have a Rivals subscription? Most of the links I have would take you there...when I get some free time I will see what I can do about pasting some quotes in here.

What GT needs...and has...to be successful is consistency in its staff. The fact is there are very few can't miss solutions out there...and when you combine it with a can't miss solution that will accept GT's off the field demands and remain loyal to GT...the group get smaller than one hand.

The fact is we are one of only 4 teams in the US to have a .500 or better winning percentage every year since 1995. We are one of only 6 teams to go to a bowl game 10 years in a row. No...we have not won a national title during this span....only a few teams have. But....you have to be a consistent winner to ever have a shot at the next level which is close.

Because our program has good kids that are keeping their nose clean and share the GT vision...because we are winning big games and staying in the public eye...because we hit the ACC Championship game this year...and because recruiting is on a role....I think we need to see what the next two years bring with a new QB and more talent coming in.

I am not sold...yet I am not sold out either!

I think we need to make some changes, but not at head coach. We made some positive changes in the offseason that has impacted recruiting. I feel if Rad does his job, changes will be made to put points on the board.

I wonder if this is why Nix was so vocal in wanting the Tulane job. Kind of seeing the writing on the wall for his OC days.

Babyfridge, I don't really think that asking for our head coach's head at this time is the least bit positive for the program. He isn't going anywhere and why should he? Other than the quarterback issue, he has improved this program every year.

Plenty of programs get stuck at quarterback and take a back seat for a while. But few programs continue to win after flunkgate and probation. In fact very few.

There are way too many positives with this program to call for Gailey's position. I also think you know he isn't going anywhere in the short term, so how does that statement help in the least?

I called out Gailey for blowing the ACCCG. Coaches make mistakes. Allowing our program to be stuck with a weak quarterback and no options was a bigger mistake. However, just about every other possible sign is positive for the program right now. Sit back and enjoy the ride (although we will be slight in body count for a few more years so areas such as ST's may not improve as much as we'd like til then).

It is frustrating to see good talent not reach potential.

I know that we all believed that Tech could reach its dreams this season - but no one else in the ACC, or the country for that matter, did.

Recruit rankings don't matter too much, but the low rankings over the past few years would say that our talent has overachieved its potential.

Kudos to CCG and staff for coaching these guys up and/or realizing their talent when no one else did. No one likes two tough losses against teams that we feel like we should have beaten. But, let's finish the drill with a win against WVU in JAX.

GO JACKETS!!

 I agree with this regarding the defense. I'm not so sure about the offense, though :ugh:

One area on offense we have lacked "star power" is the OL...and this has been a problem for 10 years...which is a head scratcher to me. We solved the DL problem over the past 5 years. However, I think we have our best OL recruiting class in a long time this year in Nick Claytor, Clyde Yandell, and Joseph Gilbert. Claytor will immediately compete at RT next year.

Wow, Gailey gets hammered for having for having low ranked recruiting classes and then lambasted for "underachieving" with those same low-ranked classes in the CHAMPIONSHIP game.

If he is getting to the ACCCG with 50th ranked talent, what will he do with 4th ranked talent?

I respect MOF2's opinion that he would like a new coach, but I do not share this opinion.

We return the majority of starters on our 2 deep next year and add a top 10 recruiting class (#1 rated at the QB position). We've got momentum & stability.

I do think we have some problems with QB coaching, however. Playcalling was mostly good this year but degenerated against UGA & Wake. Of course, if your QB can't hit the broad side of a barn, it makes you look really bad.

CCG has shown the ability to adapt & make changes. I feel that it will become clear very soon if the problem was personnel or coaching, and that corrections will be made.

I am going out on a limb here but.....I say we end up with Burnett & Peters after their visits this weekend. I just have a feeling that the other recruits & current players & coaches will win them over.....Of course it would be Awesome if Edwards threw his hat in the ring as well.....Let's go for 3!

In order for that to happen CJ would have to leave for the NFL because at this moment we are only going to sign 20. 21 if #21 leaves.

Recruiting = Rolling

It's a brave new world out there. Recruiting in state kids. Recruiting 5 star kids. What's the world coming to?
