Without SEC, there would be no college football in 2020

The Big Ten and Pac-12 surely envisioned the other big leagues following their lead. The Big 12 was said to be on the fence, while the ACC waited to see what how the Big 12 fell. The SEC didn’t care what anybody else did. It had spent five months trying to figure out how it might play football come the fall, and it wasn’t going to quit at the first hurdle. From SEC commissioner Greg Sankey on Aug. 11: “Can we play? I don’t know. We haven’t stopped trying.”
Discuss.

Yeah, I can't imagine the season would have gone on if the SEC pulled out.

I remember the SEC starting several weeks after the ACC. I don't remember the rest of the timeline details. Was the SEC really the leader in this stuff? It seems like the ACC was kind of the tip of the spear for this stuff.

Ehh I think it was more we needed a critical mass and the SEC ended up being the straw. If ACC, B10, P12, B12 all decided to play it wouldn’t have mattered if SEC decided to sit out.

ACC were the first ones to announce that they were proceeding with the expectation of playing IIRC. Believe the time line was:

- B10: we are pussies but also smartest
- P12: we are second smartest, pussy pals!
- ACC: cool, we still planning on playing
- SEC: FOOBAWL!
- B12: me too guys, me too! Can I come?
—————
- B10: wut, but we said we’re not playing.
- P12: yeah guys, they said it’s not safe.
- ACC: yeah, we heard you.
- SEC: FOOBAWL!
- B12: guys? Can you unlock the door?
—————
- B10: pshh y’all aren’t gonna play football.
- P12: yeah, right guys? Pshhh
- ACC: yeah u right. *plays football*
- SEC: FOOBAWL soon!
- B12: you guys can hear me, right?
—————
- B10: whatever. *calls financial planner*
- P12: yeah, whatever! *sips Frappuccino*
- ACC *continues to play football*
- SEC *plays football*
- B12: I can see you moving in there.
—————
- B10: okay fine, but only because you begged.
- P12: wait. But you said? How are we...
- ACC: *continues to play football*
- SEC: *continues to play football*
- B12: *goes 0-3 against Sun Belt*

Yea, uh...

The ACC started their season weeks before the SEC and were ready to play rivalry games, from which the SEC backed out. They're not exactly the self-important political quagmire that is the Big Telefrteen, but the ACC was gonna play regardless of what they did.

I remember it more like Gtrower did. Next up by Bradley is why A&M should be the #3 ranked CFP team right now.

I think the SEC would've been the most reluctant conference to cancel football. Just can't see other conferences staying the course if they had called it quits.

It would have been hard for any conference to go it alone, but frankly the ACC led* for once. If SEC had said No, Big 12 probably caves, then ACC as the sole outlier folds.

*Or at least led publicly.

SEC didn't want to play ooc rivals, they are bitches and took an opportunity to try to stack the cfp even greater. They were never not going to play, but they are bitches who didn't want to play century long rivalry games.
That’s not fair. SC and UF vited to play. It was KY and UGA that wouldn’t play. Clearly one is a pussy and the other is a bitch.

Remember when Nick Saban called the B1G idea to play football in the spring a JV season, that was cool.
