Worries and other thoughts

I just finished watching the replay of last nights game. Its interesting the things you can pick up on the TV that you can't live and vice versa.

In no particular order:

1.) Our handoffs and basic exchanges of the football are WAY too slow. I thought this watching the game live, and watching the video only confirmed it. I don't think the backs are feeling very natural in PJ's offense. This will obviously get better but right now were allowing the defense more time to react to the play by not making the exchange faster. Going forward we need to be more crisp and decisive in our exchanges. This will only get better with experience.

2.) Our oline in short yardage situations looks like crap. I agree with John Davis' comments in the other thread about the oline splits. This is definitely something that they need time adjusting too. Especially the guards. Our oline also needs to figure things out quick. I was not very impressed with their play, especially at the goaline. AJ Smith looks lost.

3.) I can't help but think that if Dwyer was lined up 3 yards further back in short yardage situations, he would be able to read the hole better. Even the commentators made mention to it. I guess this is just part of PJ's offense though.

4.) Lucas Cox is a player and a pleasant surprise. He's like a slightly smaller but faster version of his brother. He looked really solid as an A-back. Dominique Reese was all over the place and is a strong tackler, very impressed with his nose for the football. Derrick Morgan is a beast. Our DLine is the best I've seen since Marco Coleman and Coleman Rudolph were on the line. Scary. Tongo had a sack on Ploo at the end of the game that probbaly went unnoticed by many but showed just how big, strong and athletic he is. I hope this is the beginning of some good things for him. He is due.

5.) Fumbles are a concern. WAY too many.

6.) We have a coach who actually coaches up the player during a game. Novel concept.

7.) the defense played a great game against probably the best QB they have faced in a long while. We will be strong on defense.

8.) AT Barnes getting injured is a real blow. I hope he gets back quickly. The level of play after him seems to drop off a lot. It looked like we were platooning LB's to see who worked out the best. I really like Jefferson. He reminds me of Daryl Smith. Even wears the same number.

9.) I think Dwyer will be a Heisman candidate next year or if we are lucky, his senior year. I've never seen someone so big and fast as a RB for Tech.

BC will be a wake up call with how far away we really are, but a game I still think we can win.

Have to agree with your points BOR. Cox has more speed than I thought as well. OL will get there with Sewak at the helm.

OHHHH, I wouldn't be agreeing with Mover much he already can't get that big head of his in the door!:laugher:

Nice right up BOR. Agree with your comments.

I'm watching the replay now and taking a break.

One of my MVPs is Thomas. He's a beast blocking down field on every one of our long runs.

I saw one live on JD's first TD, but he's had a key block on every one.

You shouldn't have said that mof2 -

Now he's probably going to go home and cry his head off -

- - - on his big oversize pillow.

Nice observations, at the game, honestly, I was more on my "just enjoy it" mode more than anything else. But, I definately took note of all these things and plan on rewatching the game probably Monday or Tuesday evening to kill time until NEXT weekend.

I was really impressed with Kyle Jackson. On one play he ran down Ploo from the middle of the field to the sideline. He's a lot faster than I thought, and he can hit.

I completely agree with you, BOR. However, a point that should be reassuring to us is that none of the fumbles (that I noticed, at least), were your standard triple-option related fumbles. The others are disheartening, but it looked a hell of a lot better than the spring game.

Right now it's all about Coach Johnson, and I bet he knows it. Not too bad but a long way to go and a short time to get there. There will bee boots in butts and we'll be better for it.

GO TECH!!!

He knows. A quote from him after the game was "its always better to win ugly than to lose". It really remains a question of how fast things will come. I have always thought this year would be really tough

At least 2 fumbles seemed to the C to me. I think our OL play overall was poor and needs to improve dramatically. I don't know if they're thinking too much causing them to be slow to react or what, but they need to get their collective act together.
