Since the UNC game our defense has been giving up some of, if not the most, yardages our opponents have compiled all year. Yardage totals below with the opponents that gave up more in parentheses. It's not like we're playing a murders row of offensive juggernauts.

Pitt 580 (UMASS, New Hampshire, Duke)
Duke 489 (Charlotte, Kansas)
UVA 636 Most all season
VT 491 (Duke yesterday)
Miami 563 (Central Connecticut)
BC 505 (Colgate)

I’d love to see a new DC next year, so we can tell if this mess is on the talent or the coaches….

Why wait until next year?
There’s a certain expectation of how a program should handle failure. Future potential coaches and players look at stuff like that. Week 11 firings don’t fix anything or appease anyone but readers of message boards. Having a methodical, disciplined approach is always better then knee-jerk midseason firings.

I would be very surprised if 1.) CGC actually fires Thacker, and B.) if we hire any established, experienced DC to come here.

Would you agree that it’s a program with lots of upside in a winnable conference and top 25 talent on the D side of the ball? There’s not that many openings like it.

Yeah I agree with that part. I think CGC would be apprehensive at hiring a DC with as much or more experience as him. In that case CGC would be likely expected to be less hands-on with the defense. With Thacker, I've always interpreted it as Thacker being his Protoge or stand-in, planning the defense, but expected to step aside when CGC wants to do something. It makes sense to me given CGC's record as a DC. With an older/more experienced coach, he wouldn't have that freedom, I think.

Yea, only a terrible program would fire a bad coach after eight games in third season. That would never work out...

Maybe if we had the same guys returning you could tell. I think most of the defense is older players so I don't know what their eligibility looks like.

Wouldn't be surprised if Collins named himself DC for next year to give the appearance of a big change without actually having to change any coaches.

If Collins truly cares about the players, and not just about the people around him liking him, he'll make coaching changes so they can do better.

Then demoting Thacker to just LB coach? :puke:
Ugh. I can see that too

Carpenter, Swilling, T. Oliver, Djimon, and Clayton are the only seniors on D.
