Would Jimmy Robinson (Packers assistant)

be on the short list to replace CG?

under braine...maybe

right now he won't be IMO.

I know Jimmy's son and talk to him alot about his dad. The elder Mr. Robinson wanted the tech job bad. He even had a staff arranged and ready to go...then it was pulled from him when they hired Chan.

He was disappointed.

A few years back, his son (also jimmy) told me that his dad would still take it and he thought if chan were to leave they would call him. But since then Rad has come on board and Dan probably wouldn't look that way.

1 rad wants a younger more vibrant coach (not sure who/what qualifies for this...but my guess is 40s in age)
2 rad wants a NCAA guy
3 rad wants his guy not a suggestion; which Jimmy would be IMO

that is what I can gather from this situation.

Drad is a hard read on this one. Is he his own man or will he be controlled by the money people. I have a feeling that he will go with some connection he has made over the years and he already has a list. He may put a Tech guy on it for appearances, but I think it will be someone we don't expect.

I doubt our next HC will be from the NFL. I'm a little sour on NFL assisants coming to college.

I want those last three as well. We've gone the NFL route and it didn't work.

I think that a coach with recruiting connections in GA and the southeast has a significant advantage over those that don't and most NFL coaches are lacking in this area. I have also yet to see the supposedly superior X's and O's of an NFL coach yield superior results on the field in the college game.

I think we will want someone who has a proven track record as a HC with recruiting connections in the area, first.

Randy Edsall fits this description perfectly and he has coached at GT if only for a short period. I am sure that he learned a lot about running a program from an administrative standpoint from O'Leary.

David Cutcliffe also would seem to fit this description, but is he interested in being a HC again or is he comfortable being a OC.

After those two, I don't know that we have a realistic candidate with D-IA or NFL HC experience that also has recruiting ties to our area.

Jimbo Fisher has strong ties to D-Rad and strong record as an OC, but no HC experience.

Chris Hatcher has strong recruiting ties in our area and a strong record as an HC, but not at the D-IA level. He certainly fits the young (34?) and energetic description.

Is there a reliable source of information about what Rad actually wants, or is that just DB speculation?

beej67,
didn't think DRad had actually said what he would want in a replacement.

I know for a fact #1, #2 is a desire but if the right candidate is in the NFL now and has a lot of college background that would be an option (like a petrino..not saying he is a candidate that is just an example). #3 is just an assumption; and I think the guy we get you will have seen worked with Rad in the past.

Not disparaging you at all, just curious, what's your source?

Here's How I Expect A Search Would Go

I expect us to target two NCAA head coaches who have been up and down, but have a hot year this year. I don't see either as an upgrade.

I expect the backup to be the two coordinators of LSU when DRad was there. I like the one who was raised in Youngstown, OH in a similar setting to DRad's PA background.

I expect 1 or 2 minority candidates to be interviewed.

expect
Bo Pelini
Will muschamp
to get early consideration

Jimbo Fisher may, BUT will not be as high on the list IMO.

I would also think guys like Randy Edsall, Brian Kelly will get looks...but that is just speculation on my behalf. Paul Johnson has had some feeling out but isn't as high on rad's list for various reasons IMO.

About jimmy? Outside of being family friends with his son and talking to him...not sure what else u are looking for?

Looking for the source of your information about what DRad wants.

I hear a lot of "DRad wants this, DRad wants that" from a lot of Tech fans, and I'm not sure I've ever heard DRad come out and say what he wants in a head coach, so I wonder if it isn't just Tech fans projecting what they want.

no it is someone close to the program ie; works in the AA. DemJ could probably back up what I posted too...ask him via PM if you wish to do so. Not going to give out names publicly.

but he does desire a more youthful/enthused coach and its my speculation he will lean back on his past to get it. I also know he would like to hire a college guy.

Agreed.

On another forum, I described DRad as a black mirror, where people project their hopes or fears. He really has not done or said anything that would cause a good read on the inner Rad-ness.

But I think it is a real data point that he is letting Chan twist in the wind after doing so has started to hurt recruiting. DRad knows you don't muck around with recruiting for giggles and snorts. It is the dog that is not barking.
