I am not surprised. Scoring 63 on anyone excites a lot of emotional gamblers.
This will be down to 5 or 4.5 by Saturday afternoon so long as everybody stays healthy, imo.
 
Perfect!! We were 9 point underdogs going into Blacksburg. We all know how that turned out.

Pocket, you make a fine point, I think Vegas in enfatuated with the fact that Clemson can put a 60 spot on Temple and their 20 true freshmen.

Keep in mind Vegas sports books don't get enfatuated. They just want even money bet on both sides. This number should move pretty quickly.
 
The line has moved down to 7.5 as of this morning, but I am surprised that it has not moved down a little more. Yes, the purpose of a line is to get even money on both sides, but with a series with such history as this since 1990:

Score differential over the years-
1 point- 2005
2 points- 1990, 1991
3 points- 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001
4 points- 1992, 2004
5 points- 2002

I would think a line of 2.5, maybe 3.5 would split the money down the middle. But then again, I've never run a book either.

Look at it this way: no game outcome is certain. The betting line is an attempt to define the average result.

When one team is apt to have offensive explosions and the other is not, the average expected result favors the high-scoring team.

The average score of the last 5 GT-Clemson games is 20.8-28.6, so an average betting line of 9 is in line with that, but of course virtually all of the difference is from one 39-3 blowout.
