Jim Grobe just ran the ball twice starting from the 33 yard line, gained 5 yards (2nd run to the right hash) then Swank missed a FG just right (sound familiar?) to lose to the Hoos by 1 in Hooville.

There's a ten yard difference there, genius. Nothing wrong with playing for a 42 yarder. A lot wrong with playing for a 52 yarder.

My bad....it was a 48-yd attempt, not 45 (which is what it would've been after gaining 5 from the 33, btw.....33-5=28+17=45)

Genius. ;-)

Sounds like he made a stupid call too - probably cost Wake the game and their chance to return to JAX. So yea, it sounds very familiar.

My bad I don't know why I was thinking add 14. Regardless, I don't care about Jim Grobe or Weak. I care about Georgia Tech being the best they can be.

I saw that. I thought Grobe's decision was very strange. He had two plays to throw the football and get a few more yards. Personally, I don't believe in playing for anything outside of 35 yards. If I'm outside of 35 and I have time to get more yardage, I'd keep the playbook open.

same scenario Chan had, with the same results

awful game management....awful

That's it - UVA is putting stupid pills in opposing coaches' drinking cups or something.

Wake's situation was totally different. Both Grobe and Gailey were trying to get to a 47-48 yard fg where both their kickers hit on a very high percentage of the time. The difference is that Gailey had 1 play to 5 yards and Grobe had 2 plays. Grobe's situation was like running the on 3rd and 5 getting 3 yards then running again on 4th and 2, but Gailey's situation was like running on 4th and 5 which is stupid. Expecting to get 5 yards on a running play even a draw is not very bright.

I was watching that game, and Grobe definitely pulled a Gailey there. When you have time left on the clock, timeouts, and get conservative playing for a LONG field goal, you get what you deserve.
