Looks like half the LSU team is majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies, anyone have any idea what that means?

Just curious...

I once had sex with an English major while being a Biology major. I think that is Interdisciplinary Studies.

its sort of like general studies...thats what my college changed the name of general studies too but made it where u focus on certain things instead of being broad

I thought Interdisciplinary Studies was another name for prison rape? Are you sure you didn't get prison raped?

Another way of saying they don't major in anything. Just "take" a bunch of "courses" such as remedial talking (limiting the number of times you say "uh, you know" in 10 seconds), remedial counting (anything higher than 10 moves you into "undeclared major" category), remedial coloring, etc.

You take the easy courses from various majors. It's what you end up getting a degree in after you've dicked around for six years and you ask your advisor what major will get you a degree the fastest.

Buncha damn Doofuses. Interdisciplinary studies is just the opposite of intradisciplinary studies.

Sheesh. ;)

If you are a senior in interdisciplinary studies like I noticed their halfback is, that means you are in the 16th grade.

That's what high school is - study some of this, study some of that.

This is a jock's major at a major school. I was watching a little bit of the Sugar Bowl. One of ugag's players was majoring in "Consumer Economics".

WTF??

Isn't that shopping? I thought only girls majored in shopping. ugag girly man huh?

So it's an Industrial Engineering degree?

It is easier to keep SA's eligible if they can take any course and still show progress to graduation by using a catchall BS major like Interdisciplinary Studies. Most of them prolly can't even spell it.

I'm pretty sure it is when they teach you to assemble hamburgers AND how to salt fries.

Or at LSU, you can make gumbo or crayfish.

Speaking as someone with a BIS from GaState... You choose some of your own classes from a menu of upper level social sciences disciplines. For me - upper level coursework in History, Econ, Political Science, and Geography. You could also do Psychology, Sociology, etc. as options. Students major in one of the studied subjects and take fewer courses in the other selected disciplines. If you are an SA, this is probably a good degree to find a few jock-sniffing profs from a variety of departments instead of one in Sociology (like Auburn). As a PhD policy student at Tech now, an interdisciplinary studies degree was very good preparation for an MPA and my PhD studies. It would also be good for students looking to study law or pursue a graduate degree in many of the social sciences.

Sorry to interrupt your normally scheduled LSU-bashing....

"WTF is "Interdisciplinary Studies"

It is a degree from the LSU College of Arts & Sciences.

From http://www.lsu.edu/lsutoday/010615/pageone.html in 2001 the LSU board approved this new/upgraded major:

Approved a proposal to establish a bachelor of interdisciplinary studies degree, which will replace the bachelor of general studies degree and improve the general studies program by introducing significant changes to its nature. Students pursuing an interdisciplinary studies degree will have the opportunity to choose from three different ways to obtain the degree. The first track consists of three minors, each of which must range in credit hours from 15 to 27. The student must fulfill all minor requirements to receive a diploma. Another more innovative route students may take is to fashion their curriculum by working closely with LSU scholars who will engage students in their various research fields. This track will allow students to gain exposure to academic areas they may choose to later pursue more specifically. Students maintaining a 3.5 grade-point average from the time of entry until graduation will be eligible to choose a third route to obtaining a degree in interdisciplinary studies: participation in an Individual Interdisciplinary Program of Study (IIPS). In this program, students will be required to develop a rigorous, interdisciplinary program of study that meets all general-education and college-degree requirements and has an academically defensible focus. The student will also be required to submit a written proposal to a faculty committee to be accepted into the IIPS.

Here's a website that describes the General Studies. Not sure if this is old info or not, as it calls the major by it's "old" name:
