The Hurricanes HC Randy Shannon fired his DC, Tim Walton, coming off a blah 5-7 season. With The U's athletes it was a no brainer to can Walton. Coach Shannon appears to have made an excellent hire in the DC for Kansas. Recruiting analyst Larry Blustein called it "a home run". Ya gotta figure the Canes will put out a better defensive team pronto.
OC Nix could be chopped after the '08 season;).

Interesting point of article (He is known for his ferocious run defenses)

Could spell trouble...Certainly will make it more of challenge to run on Miami. If we can't run on them with our Wreckbone what happens? Will we be good enough at passing to beat them?

With Miami's talent, he should get Miami back to top 2 or 3 defenses nationwide as they were notorious for, a few years back.

UM and FSU are sleeping giants. With their recruits, it is puzzling that their record is mediocre. Me thinks, the academic side is finally catching up with them.

Me thinks their recruits weren't that good to begin with, and just got ranked highly because they were being recruited by Miami and FSU.

I can't say anything about the FSU recruits but the Miami kids from Northwestern High are the real deal (Jacory Harris, Marcus Fortson, Shane Spence, Aldarius Johnson and Brandon Washington). These are the best kids from the #1 HS team in America and are a scarry bunch. Harris (FL's Mr Football) is an excellent qb who can scramble, make the right reads and knows the playbook perfectly. And he isn't your athletically overpowering Xavier Lee (another FL Mr. Football) type that runs and basic offense and never took a snap from under center. Harris runs a complex system and has such a good grasp of it that he was given full authority to audible at any time, and usually did to the right call.

Fortson is the best DT in the nation bar none, forget D. Tyson, O. Hunter or anyone Fortson is a beast who absolutedlly dominated everyone including the Army All Americans he went up against in practice and during the games.

I'll spare any assesment of the rset to keep this post relatively short but believe me, there's no other class I'd rather have this year and that's without Brandon Harris and Jamie Harper who could end up Canes as well. This is a scarry good class, maybe the best ever (and that's saying a lot considering it's the U) I just hope as a Tech fan that Shannon either plays them all too soon (which he hinted at doing) or that the incompetent pupeteers keep calling the shots.

I remember the Gator Bowl back when Lil Joe was at QB for us and we played Miami. They were the ONLY team that year to stop our offense (Even though Fsu beat us that year it was an offensive shootout) But Miami shut Lil Joe and our option down, dominated us with their stout defense. We could not run option on them, period. They had way too much speed.

I bragged about Lil Joe and our offense before that game with a Miami season ticket holder and friend of mine, he flat out told me before that game that Miami loved option mobile QB's like Lil Joe, and no one ran option on them...He was right...

If this new DC at Miami get's it together he will once again have Miami with the best defense period in the Ncaa...They have access to the very best recruits and can get it done again. If they do, watch out! It will be critical for us as an option team to be able to throw the ball. Of course P.J. is the master at option football, so I think it will be more potent than what option we ran under the Fridge with Lil Joe. ( We really only ran option part of the time under Fridge, and not 100% like we will do under P.J.)

I still am concerned though, if we meet a Miami type defense like they had a few years back, where they were hard to run option on. A lot of teams speak about speed on defense, but there is speed and then there is Miami speed. The speed and dominating defense they had a few years back I.M.H.O. has not been duplicated by anyone since. I think Miami will get back to that and very soon, with the way they are recruiting.

#1. I'm not terrified of South Floridas HS talent any more. Florida State, Miami and Florida all cherry pick the Florida recruits. They all have top classes every year. And yet add up their 2007 records and what was the total? You can't blame all that on bad coaching. The fact is they now play several teams with just as much size and speed.
#2. Wake recently went into Talahassee to play FSU with their top 5 classes and whipped them bad. FSU couldn't stop Wake from turning the corner on them. The reason we couldn't beat Miami is that we didn't have enough speed to turn the corner on them. Somehow Wake has it now. Is it hopeless that we will ever have Wake type speed?
#3. It is an impressive hire on paper, but how long will this guy coach and how hard? Lately Miami's thugs break more coaches than coaches break them. And they have Nix so if we manage to score one field goal in 60 minutes we'll probably win.
