ESPN downplaying GT win

I think you guys are exaggerating the level of "downplaying" they did. There was some, but I just let it slip when Mark May drools over a "4.2 40" Vad Lee, and talks about how great our offense can be under him.

Also, the Sportcenter guys tonight jokingly said "Today, we were all Yellow Jackets".

Wait, are you trying to say ESPN doesn't have a personal vendetta against Georgia Tech? Next you'll say that the ACC didn't try to rig games against us to make Duke the coastal champion...

Pretty funny ...

Michael Felder@InTheBleachers
Paul Johnson's team is going ham & he is pissed. Dude is like, "hell no my players better not have a real good time"

Screw SECSPN, they hardly want to mention Clemson victory. They remind me of 790 the Zone

Let's not kid ourselves. Offense played terrible. Defense won the game and made the FSU game respectable. We need scores on offense against good defenses. The Vad pass to Sims was awesome!

The offense took what the defense gave them, not a single pitch that I can remember but gashing runs up the middle to kill USC.

294 yards rushing for 4.7 YPC, 369 yards total offense = not awful, especially against the talent of USC

The Vad pass to Sims was pretty good. Tevin was 3 of 5 passing for 9.8 YPA and also got a TD against the same defense = not awful, and against a good defense. Vad both showed the promise of his talent and why he still was not the starter, sputtering after a great initial drive, following great plays with drive killing turnovers. Tevin just ran the offense and let it work, doing his job and letting others do theirs.

OTOH, our defense played well, confusing the USC QB. But I also saw him miss some open receivers that would have made a huge difference in the game results. I will credit the defense for rattling him enough to cause the poor accuracy, but I can't help but wonder how much closer the game would be if he hit half those open receivers.

The most disappointing thing about the post game coverage was that the story was about the mighty USCw losing to team X.

GT was irrelevant to the story.

I didn't see the ESPN reporting as that biased against us. Face it, the preseason #1 losing the Sun Bowl is the big story.

ESPN also kept gushing about how Clemson's D got like 8 straight 3 and outs against LSU and completely shut down that offense.

How is the preseason #1 team losing to a team that had to get a waiver from the NCAA to even go to a bowl not the big story?

Butt Hurt Tuesday

Here you go.

That headline is a perfect example of how they downplayed our win.

It should have said "Georgia Tech's option stomps a mudhole in USC's ass in Sun Bowl"

GT rips USC a new asshole in the Sun Bowl

I like the headline, but it was the defense that won the game, not the option.

To add to the "ESPN downplayed the win" argument, this morning's Sportscenter ran with the "Most Embarrassing Loss in USC history" then had a 2 minute segment about the game where they said "USC" at least a dozen times but only said "Georgia Tech" once.

öööö espn, but honestly what did you folks expect?

1) ESPN loves USC (LA, USC has won a lot, etc.)
2) GT, until yesterday, was the butt of every CFB joke
3) We are a .500 team !
4) USC is having one of their worst years in 30(!) years

At my age, I have long ago learned to disregard any media on any subject, even if it supports my position.

The only thing that matters, the only thing, is winning the game. If the other team overlooks us - don't care. If the media is against us - don't care. The only thing is winning the game.

It is natural to want props, but we have no control over that except by what we do on the field.

I just hope this helps our guys to want bigger & better.

We won.

And it is time for ugag to lose 2iar!

If you have problems with ESPN slighting us and Clemson, they have nothing on Raleigh's WRAL. Their lead in story at 11 was about the great Wolfpack basketball win over UNCG, then a story on the Wolfpack bowl loss to Vandy. At the end of the sportscast, with no highlight footage, the anchor said, "and Clemson and Georgia Tech did get bowl wins today." Never believe for one minute that the NC media covers the conference well - they only care about the NC schools.
