John Bonham was a worthless afterthought in Led Zeppelin. All the other three had talent. Bonham couldn't even keep a beat, he had to rely on John Paul Jones to maintain tempo for him. Rick Allen was 1.5 times the drummer Bonham was, with 0.75 times the usable limbs. And Rick Allen wasn't any good either.

I have been saying the same thing for 35 years and have caught no end of hell for it from die-hard Zep fans.

Rick Allen wasn't that bad before he lost his arm. I'm not a fan of the electronic stuff that he had to resort to afterwards, but I do agree Bonham (and his son) are both extremely overrated.
 
Carmen Appice is like two Bonhams plus two Allens - with two extra arms and a working metronome
 
Bonham is underrated imo. Anyone that has chemistry and can keep a beat with Jimmy Page while he was a bottle in and in the midst of heroin throws deserves a Grammy. Have you heard Page play guitar in the late 70s? Anything moving over 80bpm took four or five riffs to identify.

Bonham was good. He may not deserve all the glorification but his beats and drumming on a number of songs was outstanding. You're a snob if you say he is no good. Go away and listen to your Neil Peart.

I'll take Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addicition and Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters for the more modern era. Not a big Dave Matthews fan, but DMB's drummer is good.

Maybe PJ can tweet out his favorite drummers.
