Someone is interested in CPJ

Davis/Fedora should probably both be disasters given the amount of cheating that's gone on, and the return on that investment.

I agree that is open to movement... but given that there were no consequences and the win totals are equal or better than previously... I just went with neutral. I think there are a few others that could swing a little bit either way.

PS: I just did a wikipedia lookup on Jeff Jagodzinski and öööö... that dude probably wants a do over on taking the NY Jets interview. The dude has been reduced to the OC at Georgia State. Ouch.

You probably recall Jim Hart aka Beebad and MissTechAnalysis talking about how Weiss was a coaching genius and Tech should have had more gumption to hire him instead of Gailey.

Yes I do. This board is mellow now compared to the Beebad, MsTA, Oldfoggy days.

A lot of folks also wanted Hatcher here from Valdosta State. Some wanted Neuheisel. I wanted Charlie Strong.

there has to be more to this story.

And he sucks at it.

that's the answer. 1 win in 15 games. Great öööö job, Jeff.

The grass is always greener...

Lets look back at other ACC coaches (and new ACC coaches) hired since 2005:

2005: Pittsburgh - Dave Wannestedt - Not Good
2005: Syracuse - Greg Robinson - Disaster
2007: NCST - Tom Obrien: Neutral
2007: UNC - Butch Davis: Neutral
2007: Miami - Randy Shannon: Not Good
2007: Louisville - Steve Kragthorpe: Disaster
2007: BC - Jeff Jagodzinkski: Good
2008: Duke - David Cutcliffe: Very Good
2009: Boston College - Frank Spaziani: Disaster
2009: Clemson - Dabo: Very Good
2010: Florida State - Jimbo Fisher: Very Good
2010: UVA - Mike London: Very Bad
2011: Maryland - Randy Edsall: Very Bad
2011: Miami - Al Golden: Neutral
2011: Pitt - Mike Haywood -> Todd Graham: Disaster
2012: UNC - Larry Fedora: Neutral (very early still)
2012: Pitt - Pal Chryst: Neutral/Good (very early still)
2013: BC - Steve Addazio: Good (very early still)
2013: NCST - Dave Doeren: Bad (very early still)

The 'hit' rate was better than I thought it would be in compiling this, but there are some obvious failures that would absolutely have killed our program.

Which of these (that we could actually land) do you think would be better at GT than CPJ? I don't think I'm falling into bannable territory with this questions.

PS: I missed Charlie Strong at Louisville which was an obvious Home Run.

That we could land? Cutcliffe, maybe. That's all.

I think it would be a terrible thing if Paul Johnson left Georgia Tech. He knows football and he is very competitive. The chances of improving with him are much better than the chances of improving with a different coach. He is probably the classiest, toughest, most dependable person associated with the entire athletic association. Having him as our coach is the biggest thing that says Tech is serious about major college football.

I know things get frustrating, but they get frustrating for almost every team. Poor defense, inconsistency, blowing leads, and making big comebacks are just part of football these days. Whether we win or lose, Paul Johnson's will power and his hatred of losing are still worth two touchdowns a game, in my opinion.

He knows what he's trying to do. And he knows why it doesn't work, when it doesn't work. Plus, he has integrity. Maybe not everybody's idea of charm, but integrity. Compare that to some coaches, who either rely on cheating or just walk around in a daze, when it's time to make a big decision in a game.

I wouldn't be quite as rosy about it as you, but I do like CPJ, and think most of the bitching about him and the offense is overblown. My one biggest concern has always been about the type of talent he is able to pull in. We've seen the level we can compete on with five or six studs on the roster; the question is whether he can ever bring in more talent like that. Far too many of the guys who we thought could be that haven't panned out for one reason or another...

Were someone to hire him away, I would be somewhat dissapointed. I know many would be estatic, but there is no guarantee that a new coach would bring more success to Tech whatsoever. As others have pointed out, many of the names on people's wishlists didn't come close to panning out at the schools they landed. Be careful what you wish for...

If not for Paul Johnson's willpower we would have had -7 points in our loss to Air Force then?

I'm with CiraldoForever. We have an offensive scheme that will win with the players we can recruit and a coach that has the fire to win. The obsession with other offenses (and the O'Leary years) gets old on this board, which is why I hardly ever post. I was at Tech during the O'Leary years. The only difference between now and then is that we occasionally beat UGA back in the day. But we've done it under PJ, came öööö close to doing it the last few times, and I have no doubt we'll do it again. Enough of the whining -- stop and smell the roses. You'll miss the smell when they're gone.

I bet PJ would be more successful at Kansas than he has been here.

Probably, he can recruit Isiah Crowells, Cam Newtons or Nick Marshalls of the world when they get kicked out of other places along with many other juco transfers. Defense still would be crap :)
