Byerly

Like it or not, every team needs a capable backup QB waiting in case of need. Can't afford to get him injured playing him elsewhere.

This. He's gonna be used a lot anyway in those first and goal situations to punch the ball in. He had more tds yesterday than JT.

GT will have Jordan next year as a backup. It's a crime for Byerly to not play somewhere next year. He can play somewhere else and still be the backup when needed.

Good call. Unless he gets hurt. In which case, our backup will be someone who has never taken a snap in a game before. But I see what you're saying: take the one position where we actually have depth, and move the player to a position where he has no experience, and, possibly, might not want to play to begin with. But, overall, I like where your head's at.

Has this board ever not wanted to make sweet love with whoever the backup QB is?

I disagree. He helps us a ton in his current role. He serves three important purposes:
1. Uninjured and ready to go if Thomas gets injured.
2. Ready to go if the game is won, so we do not get Thomas injured.
3. Goal-line tough yards.

Have him do more and you risk getting him hurt and making him unable to serve those purposes.

Also, Byerly has a pretty good arm as well as evidenced from the end of the Duke game and his pass to Messick yesterday. I feel very comfortable if something should happen to Justin that Tim could come in and do a good job.

Actually fj, most of these guys post like they prefer the rough stuff. But they definitely want the backup.

High floor and decent ceiling player. If CPJ didn't love JT5 as much as its clear he does, he may have pulled the switch at the half against Duke and go knows what happens.

All this being said, Byerly is doing exceptionally well in his backup role just as JT5 is doing exceptionally well in the starting role.

No need to change things up. I disagree that Byerly would be as effective in other positions as he is at QB in the option.

I am perfectly fine with the dude playing a backup role at QB. It's nice to know we have that security blanket of talent/depth at the most important position. I don't think he adds value to our team at AB or BB, so no reason to put him in somewhere that he a) may get hurt, and b) may not want to play.

not sure him being the 5th or 6th A-back or 3rd B-back would get him much more playing time anyway

On the other hand, Arky's backup last year has turned into a decent second TE this year, but that is different because that guy was not ever playing QB again.

He was joking. Jeez, are you people humor impaired?

And I think I know why the OP has OD in his name. Lay off the crack pipe my friend.

But I would love to hear where else on the field you think Byerly could play. You do realize they said the same things about Tebow.

Get used to having good backups if we are going to actually have a program. Tech football has been 1-deep at almost all positions as long as I can remember.

The situation we have Byerly in is perfect. Quit being retarded.

Imagine this...which is fairly likely to happen.....

"First and goal on the UGA 8 yard line. Byerly keeps for 5 yards. Byerly keeps for 3 andddddddd...TD". UGA and other teams know what's coming yet they can't stop it. öööö them and everyone else. I love it.
