IMO, nobody will be talking about a "weak" ACC...if this happens in two weeks:
GT > UGAG
FSU > UF
Clemson > USCe
Louisville > UK
One of these is not likely. The other three are very probable Clemson ain't beating the OBC
If Ohio State lost, I could see us jumping them. Very unlikely considering everyone's love affair with tOSU, but we beat VT in Blacksburg while they lost to them at home.OK, to bring the discussion back to potential outcomes for us, if we win the ACCCG and (as many desire) the CFP Committee decides to invite only Power 5 conference champions to CFP, which one of the 5 gets omitted for us to be one of the 4 playoff teams?
For example:
It would be difficult for Georgia Tech, with 2 losses, to be selected over those other four. Our wins at ugag and in ACCCG would need to be impressive.
- GA Tech, ACC;
- Alabama, SEC;
- Ohio State, B1G;
- TCU/Baylor, Big 12; and
- Oregon, PAC 12.
So does every other conference.
The ACC has five good teams: FSU (beat ND, Oklahoma State before QB injuries), GT, Clemson, Louisville, and Duke. One of those, Florida State, appears to be very good. It has four ok teams: Virginia Tech (beat Ohio STate), Boston College (beat USC), and North Carolina. The other five, NC State, Virginia, Pitt, Syracuse, and Wake aren't very good.
The SEC has six good teams: Alabama (beat West Virginia), Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgie, and Auburn (beat K State), and Missouri. One of those appears to be very good, Alabama. They have four ok teams: Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas, and South Carolina. The others, Florida, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Tennessee don't seem like very good teams.
The Big 12: has four good teams, Baylor, TCU, K State, and Oklahoma. It has two ok teams: West Virginia and Texas. At this point, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Iowa State, Texas Tech are bad.
The ACC fits right in with those.
I wouldn't call duke a good team. That was a bad loss for us. There's a reason we both have two losses and theyre not sniffing the rankings while we're #18. And our schedule isn't even that impressive.
If Ohio State lost, I could see us jumping them. Very unlikely considering everyone's love affair with tOSU, but we beat VT in Blacksburg while they lost to them at home.
If we beat the mutts and F$U, I won't really care not making the playoffs.
It's simple. If uga wins the SEC after we beat them then we have a chance. If they dont, then our chance of getting in is almost zero.
To really improve our odds, we need some of these 1-loss teams to drop another game (i.e. Miss St to Ole Miss or any Pac12/Big10/Big12 1-loss team).
If UNC wins tomorrow night -great, we'll play in the ACCCG. I'd like a shot at FSU -but I want UGA bad this year; stop the streak, move up in the polls, at the very least an Orange Bowl berth; life would be good for the next 365 days.
If that game is a distraction, ten days away, we are in big trouble.I am hoping that the UNC game is not a distraction. Really, the kids need to be laser focused on everything they can do to beat UGA. If we get FSU a week after that, great! We really only have ONE GAME LEFT in the season to pay attention to...
