That didn't take long

It's the money talking. More teams, more games, more money!

I have a message for the conspiracy theorists when it comes to the brass influencing the events on the field.

If there is a fix, then there will be no better game in which to see it on full display than this year's ACCCG. There's a lot of money at stake.

Oh good god almighty, championship week is going to be a veritable hurricane of yellow flags.

It should be 16, but 8 is a start...

8 is enough to be sure the actual best team is in the pool, as long as the selection criteria includes the conference champions and something else unbiased, such as the top 3 non-champ RPI or something.

If it were 16 they could take all 10 conference champs plus 6 "at large" teams. There would be no undefeated teams from the MAC of MWC bumped out by a two loss SEC team.

Remember when the Big Twelve and SEC didn't want conference championship to count? Now with the possibility of no Big Ten or Twelve schools, they've changed their minds. I also see scenarios where Bama and MSU lose and the SEC gets frozen out with a 3 loss conference champ.

The management committee for the playoff consists of the 10 FBS conference chairs and the athletic director for Notre Dame. That alone should tell you that the pressure to go to 8 is already there. The SEC may be for 4 and a couple of the other power conferences may not care one way or the other, but you know the G5 chairs are all daydreaming about a 32 team playoff. The pressure to increase is only going to go up every week there are 2 teams from a single conference in the top 4. Someone on the management committee is really going to go into full on 'what the hell' mode when the final rankings are out, though. We all knew somebody would get left out, but we didn't think it would be US!

Is there a lot of money at stake? I was under the impression that the ACC schools will get the same amount of money either way. There's $2 mil in travel money FSU won't get. Otherwise no difference.

8 would work. Guarantee one spot to a small conference if they meet certain criteria. Only downside, is the SEC will probably get all 3 at large spots.

they need to limit the number of teams from a single conference. We don't need a playoff consisting of the top 4-8 sec teams

Who wants to see SEC teams play each other again? Isn't that what the regular season is for?

16 is overkill. How many years have there been 16 legit championship contenders in the country? by the end of the year the #16 team might have 3 losses. get out of here with that.

8 gets you power 5 champs and 3 at larges. 16 gets you top 2 of power 5, top 1 of the rest and some at larges.

Another way to look at it: we're the second highest ranked in our conference. Duke isn't even ranked right now. We have 5 sec teams ranked above us.

1) Alabama
2) Miss St.
3) LSU
4) Auburn
5) UGA
6) Ole Miss
7) Arkansas
8) Florida

What about South Carolina, A&M and Tennessee? We need at least an 11 team playoff.

I don't understand when they say that 8 teams would be difficult schedule wise. Just looking at this year:
Dec 6th - conference championships
Dec 20th (after exams) - quarterfinals
Dec 27th - semifinals
Jan 3rd - finals

Maybe the 20th is too early since technically practice and exams are happening the same week?
