JHD with us yes or no?

I believe the last weight I saw on JHD was 288. I think he's just been packing on the muscle.

That's about 45 lbs gained in a year. My first reaction is to call BS on that number. My second reaction is that JHD is fat.

:rotfl: you're just reaching now. Have you ever played a college sport? Hell he was around 250 as a RS-Frosh in '12. He was listed at 260+ on his RW bio from last season. I also forgot he was a 1st team freshman all American in '12 before the scheme change.

Y'all talking about, "oh idk if JHD is the best now" lol. Who the hell cares? As we saw against FL.st, our d line is def not a world beater.. Adding any fresh big body into the rotation is a good thing. Is the best defensive player? Idk.. Is he the defense better with him in rotation? Absolutely

Have you seen him? Everyone said before he ever got here that he had the frame to put on a monstrous amount of good weight. Also, as another mentioned, it's definitely not 45 lbs in a year. He's been consistently getting heavier since day one.

And if he has, then great. Putting on 45 lbs of muscle in a year is tough. His weight at the end of 2013 was listed at 247, which would have been his beginning of the season weight. Most guys drop 5-10 by end of season. And, yes, I've played college athletics, so I know how this works.

Yeah, from what I remember of 2013 season, JHD was killing at LB, but I remember him being slow. Especially when he got a pick 6. It seemed like it took forever to get to the goal line. I think this position change will be a good thing.

To answer wombats original question, which I believe was already answered- It's hard not to believe when the coach won't shut up about you and your talents. Not only CPJ, but I remember reading an article of JT5/Laskey talking about practice and saying "I try to avoid JHD every time but he just seems to be right there on every play. He's a öööö hard hitter."

JHD would be a great addition to the team. I've also heard that he's been killing it in practice.

Why do you keep saying 45 lbs in a year? He was ~240 as a frosh, ~250-255 as a soph, and was listed at 261 after last season. Where are you getting 45 from? You think he was playing at 240 last season??

It is no surprise he is the best player on defense. Why are people surprised? JHD is NFL talent

Make no mistake, I WANT him to be good. I loved his potential when he was a Fr. I've learned over the years to take practice comments with a grain of salt.

That's a reasonable position. Just seems ridiculous to argue over a kids percent body fat based on reported weights.

Additionally I've seen several OL quoted, including Shaq, saying that one of the reasons the OL has been so good this year is because of going against JHD and Whitehead in practice. I agree we can't say for sure until we see it on the field, but it's ok to get excited about stuff every once in a while, even if we are tech fans.

The chatter hasn't been that he's been blowing it up on scout team. The chatter is that he's the best defensive player on the team regardless of position.

He was in the 240's at the end of 2013. I don't understand why you want to dispute that.

There's a few sources out there that show him in the high 240s in '13. So he's up ~35-40 pounds in over a year and ~25 pounds in the last ~6 months. And you said you played sports in college? How accurate was your day-to-day weight? Do they weigh in with the same things on each time? Shoes? Take their phone out of their pocket? What did they have JHD listed at his junior year. 230?

What I'm getting at is it is ludicrous to make assumptions about a 22 year olds BMI based on a handful of reported weights from varying sources.

And straight dumb to say you're not sure he'll be any good now because he wasn't a good player for us previously.

Where are you getting that 240's at the end of 2013 from? Everything I've seen had him high 260s low 270s at the end of '13.

Yeah, don't listen to bat. He said above that he's learned to take practice comments like a grain of salt. I think he's learned to have a bad attitude more than anything.

If that's what he's become in the last year, then great. He certainly wasn't that before his academic issues hit. Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it. Worst-to-first is rare.

The dude has 129 career tackles in the 2 years he's played for us. What more do you need when you say "I'll believe it when I see it." That's a crap ton of tackles. The guy can obviously play some football.

remember when wombat had that really informative post about gt football? me neither
