Darren Waller Shrine Game Update

Could be about how consistently he does it though.

Yeah but how many tight ends are consistently good blockers? Not to mention that teams aren't going to draft Waller as a TE and then use him exclusively in run blocking. He would be a pass catching TE. I don't think I've ever seen Jimmy Graham make a single block in his career. Tony G was a terrible run blocker.

And Waller isn't an awful blocker. If he shows he can be coached to run NFL route trees he should go before the end of the third/fourth round.

I hope the best for Waller but really don't compare him to Smelter. Smelter has potential to be a great NFL receiver because he knows how to run with the ball after the catch.

I can't say, I haven't seen his speed. In the pros, there is a big difference between a 4.56 and a 4.64. If hes on the low end of that, with his height, he will be a rich man.

The article is excellent. He can catch (unlike hill) but he can drop too, so he's not a Wes Welker (or whoever you think owes his career to not dropping passes. Clay Matthews? I don't profess to follow the pros that well)

He does not have insane passion for football. He does not block that well considering the size advantage he has. Some of the most fun I had watching Tech was watching Thomas absolutely molest defensive backs. Top dbs, pushing them around like they were middle schoolers. Amazing. Waller should have been doing that this year. If he had, he would be a first day pick. The fact that he hasn't makes him a reach that early assuming 4.6 speed.

He is huge. Huge. There is a big difference between 6-6.75 and 6-3. Even 6-5. Hes being chosen based on potential, obviously, so 5-20 pounds of muscle is pretty irrelevant. If they think he needs the weight, the know they can put that little but of weight on the guy. Hes a good size for special teams now. He can play the slot at the weight or TE when its obvious he will be going out for the pass.

It comes down to speed. Every .01 second means a bunch of spots. Get into the 4.5 range, and hes rich. Uncork a high 4.6, and hes gonna be a FA, IMHO.
Apparently he has grown almost two inches since the first season's GT roster. Never saw Johnson list a guy UNDER his size. (Thomas is a great example. If he is 5-11, 189 everybody else is a midget.) Even the people at Clemson were amazed at how small he was. One told me he "could hardly see over the center, and our DBs kept losing him in the backfield." And one of the game announcers with more guts than the others noted he was not nearly that big when they talked to him. Regardless, Johnson just said something like "You can turn a 4.5 into a 4.6 real quick if you don't know the system."

Wait, doesn't someone have to drink piss when Waller gets drafted? Wasn't there a bet about no offensive starters from the 2013 (or was it 2012) team getting drafted?

By now doesn't BOR have to drown in piss?

Now we are getting somewhere. Also applies to Shaq Mason I think, any offensive player from 2011 or 2012. One or the other...

I had no idea. He would have a hard time making Bama's secondary at that height, no? Is there any pro cb that small?

There is one CB and 2 Safetys that height in the pros. There are also a few RBs that height or shorter as well as one or two receivers.

I'm 5'8 and have stood next to Joe Hamilton - he's the exact same height. It ain't nothin' but a number.

I remember standing on the sideline thinking "Man! I can't see öööö behind these linemen. How does he hit ANY WR's ever?!?" And Joe threw one of the best deep balls in college football. It was like he could just see completely through all of the traffic in the middle of the field.

Maybe they are measuring JT's height with his helmet on?

I hope Waller is training his socks off and runs a ridiculous 40 time - it sure would be sweet to put yet another big receiver in the NFL.

One thing Joe was good at was throwing the ball to a spot on the field before the receiver made his break. Thus, he really didn't have to see downfield to make the throw. He threw to a spot and trusted his receiver to get there.

As far as JT's height, the 5'11" number is his height on the field. That's with shoes and helmet on.

Reggie saw the field by dropping 20 yards every time he threw the ball. Unfortunately, he ended up running for his life most of the time and lost yards.

More safeties than CBs? And 3 in the league? Very interesting. Thank you very much for the facts.

I thought it was BOR's piss that had to be drunk?

So nobody remembers who made the bet? Was it one of those guys who disappears whenever we're doing well?
