Richt

Kirby is not a proven Head Coach. He could be a bust like Muschamp. To me that is a risk and one I hope they take

he has been an Asst HC for a few years, coached in the NFL and in the SEC. not that unproven

i think he would help Georgie jack their recruiting up another level too. Any change is a risk, but Smart has a strong coaching background. he also has enough connections to put a good staff together

What exactly is asst HC? Think Saban is delegating many executive decisions?

Muschamp had similar history. Some guys are great coordinators, but not suited to be head coaches.

Tenuta comes back to mind. He was the highest paid assistant in the nation at the time if I remember correctly but he had no business anywhere near the helm of a team. I hope he savored his glimpse from that position since his window for someone making the mistake of hiring him has closed.

And Foster is basically the same.

Diet coke really hurts when you shoot it out your nose...

I talked to Knox Culpepper the other day and he said the letter winners had given up and want a change, many aren't going to games the last couple of years. They like MR as a person but want him gone. Says support is eroding fast from within for what it's worth.

That's what OldDawg is saying elsewhere. I am intrigued as to what is going to happen this year. I think they are going to find that changing coaches is much like passing the football. There are three things that can happen, and two of them aren't good...

Perhaps, CMR was in Washington State checking to see if Eason would follow him to Texas or Miami. If ugag does change coaches it will set them back 5 years.

Not sure about this. There'd be the usual transition year but lots of coaches hit it big in year 2--if they inherited any kind of material. Recruiting has trended up the last year or two. (It's generally been fifth or sixth best in the SEC, as has the production). Donnan recruited well and Richt got quick results--finished #3 nationally in his second year. The real problem is it's a terrible year for hiring new coaches. The Houston and Memphis coaches are the belles of the ball right now, and there are something like 12 major programs already looking for new coaches: both USCs and a host of others. If Richt wins out at 10-3, it will be a hollow ten wins but it will be hard to fire a guy with two straight seasons of that record. That's the quandary--kind of stuck at good-but-never-great. I agree with those who say you guys can make the decision easier on 11-28.

Recruiting 5th or 6th in the SEC doesn't satisfy the delushional Athens crowd.
