Sewak

Does anyone remember an interview with CPJ where he says something to the effect of relying on one key offensive lineman that can read the whole of the defense and direct the offensive line? Said something like we had that in Shaq Mason but were missing it this year.

That statement struck me as odd at the time. Why is one of your players providing your other players the assignments they need to make? A breakdown in the coaching technique for sure. Not everyone is ready.

We have no drive blocking game. Defenders slip right under us at the mesh. Our youngest players are the only ones that seem able to block into the second level. Linemen are not learning, they are out of position, they can't identify who their assignments are, we have zero pass protection - man or zone protection. There are a zillion spread teams. There is no reason we can't hire someone better suited to handle our offensive line.

Our players are very intelligent based on the HS GPA, SAT scores, and GT GPA. Yet they cannot evaluate the defensive set and know who to block? Yet they just decide to block no one?:furious: I can't buy it. Coaching is the dang problem.

Our oline play has been subpar for 7.5 out of 8 years under CPJ and Sewak. The only time they looked like they were a team strength is the second half of last season. We have continually had 5th year seniors in this program with multiple years as starters look like they have not improved. When guys who have played two full seasons are stating in interviews that they are confused as to who to block, well... that shouldn't ever happen.

This isn't and hasn't been a "this year" problem. Its constantly been a problem. Every öööö year since Paul Johnson has been coach he has made statements in pressers multiple times in a season that the oline isn't performing well. The only years he hasn't harped on that is 2009 and 2014. In 2013 he stated that he was going to start getting "very involved" in the coaching of the oline as it wasn't up to standard.

At what ööööing point does CPJ get rid of the elephant in the room being Mike Sewak??? Its gotten öööö ridiculous that Sewak next to Ted Roof is the highest assistant on the staff. The guy is clearly the most under-performing coach since Dave Wilson and that's saying something since Geis and Nix were here after Wilson. The fact that this guy collects a pay check still is beyond stupid.

Is there anyone who thinks that Sewak is doing a good job? I haven't met anyone of this opinion.

Just a note, new A-backs and B-backs can make the OL look much worse than it is. B-backs have to adjust to different gaps at play time like the OL has to adjust their blocking schemes. A-backs and B-backs are also fundamental to our pass protection. It's not news to DC's that we have freshman AB's and BB's who have difficulty picking up blitzes.

Maybe Sewak should be fired, but a lot of plays may not be what they seem.

We have plays where an offensive linemen is supposed to block nobody?

It's a freaking jail break any time we try to pass. Not possible for the backs to make these guys look worse than that.

My uneducated hypothesis is that the wide line gaps we use for our ground game doesn't translate to passing. Wide gaps combined with generally poor pass block technique combines for no one being touched on their way to the backfield.

Last offensive play for Georgia in 2010, our d-line was instructed to not defend so they can score. If it had worked after that, CPJ would have been heralded as a genius.

But no, OL doesn't block anyone on their own merit.

Even though we lost, that was still a brilliant move. We were down 35-34 and UGA could have run out the clock. Instead they took the bait and scored, which at lease gave us a chance to tie.

"They have some good running backs – they’ll always have that – but overall we felt they had one of the worst offensive lines in the league. There’s just not really an imposing or athletic presence there."

Might have been Cutcliffe take it for FWIW

That is golden.

No NFL caliber receivers (2 drafted).

No one imposing on the OL (1 drafted, and started as a rookie)

Jabari really impressive.

Good thing those quotes were anonymous, because someone would look like they can't evaluate talent at all.

I was just saying the mistakes are amplified with freshmen backs.

CPJ said we should have scored on the two plays before the goal line fumble, and on the goal line fumble we turned two guys loose. Maybe those missed assignments are the freshmen A-backs or OL, but if they're the senior/junior OL then I have to really question the coaching. Either Sewak should go or go back to two OL coaches if the scheme is that complicated.
