hey folks, i'm back. i just got home last night after the long trek from TN to FL. i drove thru downtown ATL and gave a hearty "BOOOO" to the GT campus, lol.

congrats on a CLOSE win that could've gone either way :ugh:... lol, just kidding. GT thoroughly dominated ND and Tenuta owns Weis. i think Weis's gameplan was pathetic, but hats off to GT who played like champions.

some quick thoughts:

i feel bad for DD. poor guy -- he's not a Pat White type QB, and i feel that his performance can be attributed to a bad gameplan. his athleticism could've been greatly used if Weis would've thrown the ball... but a 18:1 run to pass ratio pretty much guaranteed the GT D that ND would run every play. i dont want to see him transfer... he's a great kid.

taylor bennett played as i expected. the score could've been worse if he could've hit his open receivers. i didn't expect TB to tear it up, and he looked pretty shaky. he should get better as the year progresses, but with GT's run proficiency, he should've been able to light up the skies.

john bond did a nice job as the game wore on. the direct snap to TC was a great call.

TC 200 yards rushing... that was 100 more than i expected... he had the corners all day long. he played a heck of a game.

your ST have vastly improved.

i think GT is underrated.... IF TB can improve, GT will be tough to beat.

ND's OLinemen are world-champion matadors.

well, that game was certainly a thrashing... it was hard to watch for me, but i'm sure you guys loved it =P i wish it could've been a closer game, but all the credit goes to GT... it's sad that the media is focusing on how poorly ND played. GT won the game... ND didnt lose it. although, i think CW's gameplan was terrible.... just awful.

But Weis is a genius, how can you put him down like that?! Will the ND faithful run him off too now?

In all serious, glad to see you dropped by again. It's good to see a good sport. My boss and his daughter were at the game. I had my wife call shortly after the game because I knew I wouldn't be "allowed" to talk to them. She's 9 and this was her first trip to Touchdown Jesus, the Hall of Fame, etc. She hated the loss, but had plenty of stories to tell about the trip.

Oatmeal, it takes some guts to come back here and for that you have my respect. I hate to tell you I told you so (Actually, no I don't. You're a ND fan, and I enjoy thoroughly telling you, "I told you so") but I think I called this game to a tee.

Weiss was trying to set up a QB draw short pass type offense, but it blew up in your face because it was a complete change from your overall offense and your team just wasn't prepared enough for our various blitz package. And as predicted, our defense did tee off on your QB's like Tiger Woods swings his driver. As soon as you put the stand up QB in the game, it was over.

I even predicted a GT win 27-3 in the prediction contest, so I'd say I had everything about right.

If you would like to pay me for my predictions throughout the season, feel free. I'll give you my address as to where to mail the money.

I do wish you luck on the rest of your season, and hope Clausen turns out to be everything you want him to. Good luck versus PSU.

No offense to instant oatmeal (he's been a good sport over here) but the Irish fans stick to the talking points moreso than any other fans I've ever seen. They come up with a conclusion and everyone sticks to it like witnesses in a murder trial.

I read ND nation over the weekend so I would know what to expect from an ND coworker and show-nuff, he came in and recited it word for word. And oatmeal has just repeated the same stuff that I heard from my coworker.

They still like Weis but think he outsmarted himself in this game by thinking he could implement an offense other than his own in a matter of weeks.

Thanks for stopping by, oatmeal. Good luck the rest of the year.

It's not necessary to rag on Bennett, if you are in a QB criticizing mood start with the guys on your team.

wannabee, there are some ND fans who are calling for Weis's head. that is incredibly short-sighted and ridiculous imo. weis is on track to bring in his 3rd consecutive top 10 recruiting class and has just collected two solid seasons of wins with thin depth at ND. i hate that some irish fans are so fickle, and it does give a bad name to more reasonable ND fans. however, i think every fanbase has it's pool of idiots... ND's pool of idiot fans is quite large since it has a big fanbase.

BoR, i give you props... you did a good job in calling the game. i thought that there was no way weis would completely implement a WHOLE new offensive scheme... but sure enough, he did. however, i was right too.... saying ND would run 80% of the time (it was actually higher). you did call the game correctly, but i refuse to pay your for future predictions =P thanks for the good luck wishes against PSU... i think we'll fare better against them, but it will be another hard one to watch.

contact: i don't read NDNation. in fact, i posted on this message board before i read any other ND blogs or message boards because i wanted to come here and take it like a man since i talked so highly of the irish. i think it's a bit unfair to classify an entire fanbase in a stereotypical fashion because of your boss. my points were straight facts with which most any football pundit would agree: weis got owned by tenuta, weis had a terrible gameplan, from this bad gameplan other things fell apart, OLBs/DEs/CBs couldnt contain the outside run (thanks mainly to Dwight Stephenson's ineffectiveness in backup for the ejected JBrown), poor OL play (again, attributed to Weis's gameplan and inexperience). these are obvious points... and just because i agree with them doesn't make me a talking head... it makes me a realist. all of my points were derived from watching the same game as you did -- they aren't excuses or attention diverters -- they are just obvious points from the game. still, all of the credit goes to GT, they played a heck of a game.

i wasn't necessarily ragging on bennett... i gave an objective opinion about his play. he only completed 48% of his passes and only had 5.26 ypa.... those numbers are not good, and i expected him to struggle.... that's all. and i think you know that i will easily agree that ND has QB issues, but i wasn't talking about ND QB's... i was talking about TB.

Is this an example of ND elitism? Who said boss?

By the way, my stereotype is not based on a sample size of 1 (although I guess it is when I apply it to you). I've worked with this guy for several years and do this after most ND games, especially ones that don't follow his expectations.

I wouldn't mind seeing Oatmeal stick around the rest of the season. :)

I'm heavily rooting for ND to do well. Should make us look better.

lol, honest mistake. for some reason i thought you said boss. i'm not from ND, so i don't have any elitist comments about ND's curriculum. i wanted to go to GT at one time... until i visited the city and didn't like the hectic lifestyle. i respect GT's academics.

how do i fit your stereotype? also... you are ragging on your ND coworker because he talks about the game with you afterwards? there are always reasons why teams lose and win... and i talk about them on msg boards regardless of the outcome. how is this so terrible?

thanks, beej... and, i will stick around =D

Yes, I rag on him because it entertains me and other coworkers. We're even more entertained if we can get him to curse. I don't want it sound like I'm being critical of either one of you (I think our fans could benefit from a little unity - not so much that we're all using the same talking points but there is still a pretty large divide).

My only point about him (and the part that entertains me) is I know what he's going to say before he says it - and this theory has been put to test multiple times. You fit the "stereotype" by making the same observations about the game as he. And while it's difficult to come up with anything different regarding the game itself, it's the first time he's said anything critical about Weis. It's like ND fans are so protective of Weis because if anyone (outside of the program) perceives him to be less than perfect, then everything negative that was said about the firing of Willingham (I agree with the firing, BTW) becomes validated.

I said boss. You just got Contact and my posts confused. No big deal.

Yea. Since the game, I have been wondering what happens to Demetrius Jones. Does he go the famed route of athletic quarterback-to-rb/wr/cb? Does he transfer? He is probably smart enough to know that he will likely never see another snap as the ND QB.

He was like the #2 rated dual-threat QB coming out of HS so he is good enough to be the starting quarterback at a lot of other schools (granted they dont force him into a gameplan that is destined to fail then bench him for his poor performance). Unless he has an undying love to the University of Notre Dame, he is more than likely gone at the end of the year.

that topic is starting to pop up... i honestly dont know.

2000 yards passing, 23 (or was it 29?) TDs to 3 INTs and 1000 yards rushing in one year... he was a stud. i feel bad for him.

i agree. he loves ND, but i dont think his love will trump his desire to actually play football. i'll be sad to see him go if he so chooses.

Oatmeal, you added a lot on this board before the game. You're a great fan, best of luck! I think ND will bounce back this week and play much better against Penn State, though probably not a win. I think Clausen will get better - I doubt the final win total will be less than 7 or 8.

thanks 77. i hope it turns out as well as you think.

are you guys upset that the media isn't giving GT more props? i mean, they focus on ND's inability rather than GT's dominance. like i said, GT won the game.... ND didn't lose it. from what i saw, GT has the best team in the ACC.

1) We're used to it

2) For the most part, GT fans relish the underdog role. We're OK with laying in the weeds a few more weeks as the tough part of the schedule is coming up - BC, @UVA, Clem, @ MD and @ Miami.

Oatmeal was fun to have around.....thanks for your post, believe me now? ha

Three cheers for Oatmeal. You were a great addition to the board and I hope you won't be a stranger even when we are not playing ND. You would have my vote for Honorary Jacket if I were old enough to vote.

Nice of you to come back, most would not.

You summed up my feelings exactly as it relates to the Media not giving the Jackets credit, instead focusing on ND's short comings.

i told demjackets that i would admit if he was right about the starting QB info.... and he obviously was. so, i will now insert my foot into my mouth as you have proven me wrong. i respect you for sticking to your guns.

thanks for the honorary mention, essobee =D
