I Feel Confident

Only thing he won't like us on is recruiting but I bet he has us winning 8-9 games next year and with our schedule I'm betting he predicts 9-3

With our schedule?

We still have to play FSU next year and we also have Clemson and UGA. North Carolina is playing for an ACC title tomorrow and they're going to be returning a lot of players. Virginia Tech now has an offensive minded coach and they retained Bud Foster to run the defense. Duke has beaten us two years in a row so you can't call that one an automatic win either.

That's half of our games right there which should be tough games.

+1

Also, I don't think we're running some complex, difficult system here. GA Southern's players were able to run it pretty decently, albeit against much slower, smaller competition. Last I checked, our athletes should be a bit brighter than those rednecks in Statesboro. Not to mention the old Big 8 schools that ran variations of our offense in the 60s and 70s with success. Those corn-eaters weren't exactly rocket scientists.

I'm with the "Sewak's gotta go" crowd. Our veteran OL has no excuse for its performance this year.
It isn't Mike Sewak. Paul Johnson has known what he had with Sewak for years. He doesn't want to change, or he doesn't care to change. Either way, the performance of the team is in Paul Johnson's hands. He obviously has never equated Sewak's results to Wommack's or Groh's results, i.e., rising to a fireable level. Three and nine is fine.

For those interested, here's our record in games decided by 7 points or less under CPJ:
2015 1-5
2014 3-3
2013 0-2
2012 0-3
2011 3-2
2010 2-3
2009 5-1
2008 5-2

Total 19-21

As a variation on this, I took a look at games decided by 7 points or less where the opposing team scored 30 or more points. Then I compared that record to the overall close game record for the year. I was looking to see if GT fared differently in close higher scoring games.

Considering that the sample size is just 14 games, I'd say that the team does about as well in close higher scoring games as it does in close lower scoring games.

2015: 0-2; 1-5
38-31 L
31-28 L

2014: 1-3; 3-3
42-38 W
31-25 L

37-35 L

2013: 0-1; 0-2

2012: 0-1; 0-3
42-36 L

2011: 1-1; 3-2
38-31 W
30-27 L

2010: - ; 2-3

2009: 2-1; 5-1

2008: 1-0; 5-2

Overall Record: 5-9; 19-21

What I'm confident in is that Stingtalk this offseason is going to be brutal.

we don't play FSU next year

That's great news then because Fisher made the comment the other day that next year's FSU team looks like it will be his most talented team he's ever had.

I thought the out-of-conference matchups rolled on 2 years at a time...home & home for each? That's good news for us if that's not the case.

We live in an unfortunate future where we only play a non-rival cross division team something like once every 6-7 years (the byproduct of having a 14 team conference with only 8 conference games each year).

How? Seriously, how? If you're going to trot out the worn out and unproven canard of they practice against 3O all the time, then you better throw the secondary in there, too, since we throw so little and it's not like they're defending against four- and five-wide sets when going up against our O. Oh, wait ... that doesn't fit the narrative?

Because we don't practice against the 3O all the time. In spring practice, yes, but that's only 15 practices tops and it isn't every practice then, either. In summer, for a couple of weeks. Once it gets to about two weeks before the first game ... nope. After that, it's other people's offenses the first two to three D units go up against in practice.

Canard? Good one.

You had a reasonable post going until the bold part.

Brutal? It'll basically be whining children like Yukonwreck and texstinger repeating themselves nonstop. "Paul Johnson is okay with 3-9!"

I guess I'm giving them too much credit.

I agree with this in principal, but you can observe that lots of teams with unique offenses or have offensive guru head coaches seem to struggle on defense. Oregon, Auburn, UNC, Washington State, etc. all come to mind besides GT.

I do think that either the team is picking up on the priorities of the head coach or, more likely, you don't have the right talent to simulate the other team's offense on the scout team.
