This weekend is huge for the future of the football program.

And what position are we recruiting him for?

I'm shocked to know we are even in the running for a kid like this. Music Technology major?

By all accounts he is a very talented artist and is considering Architecture.

It sounded like Tech was just a courtesy visit for Robertson, from his interview. Courtesy to his mom. I think we should just negative recruit the hell out of UGA when he comes.

much butthurt potential in this thread...

Nah, as you can see above, we have our best man on the job.

"Good luck at Tech, Donovaughn."

If we can't beat out Stanford for a kid from Georgia, what the hell is happening in this world.

When the news broke today about the Music degree and everyone was joking about it devaluing their GT education. My first thought was that easy degrees don't seem to devalue Stanford degrees... big cry me if you must.

Why are you assuming a music technology degree will be easy?

I grew up in Georgia. If I were a high school student again (back before I had any kind of allegiance to Tech), and I had the choice of a full ride to either Georgia Tech or Stanford...well, sorry guys.

I ended up loving Georgia Tech. I had a great time while I was there, and I feel like (after beating me down and building me back up) it gave me a great head start in life. And in retrospect, it even turned out to be nice being only a couple hours away from home. But, as a high school student, I'm afraid the allure of Stanford would have won out for me.

Now, granted, the one big difference is that I wasn't looking to play football when I went to college.

So we should be getting all of the smart California kids then, right?

.. or Harvard degrees.

The difference those schools have is that they admit a very low percentage of applicants (5% or less) and you have students willing to major in shoe shinning just to go to Harvard.

The biggest difference between Stanford and GT academics for a football player is the major the football team "allows" you to pursue. Stanford is more prestigious than GT, but it's different if you're comparing GT Business to Stanford Communications.

Firstly my nephew is a music technology major in addition to Physics at Carnegie Mellon and he's had an amazing ride in both there. If Tech offers something similar than very cool and hopefully this will work out for this young individual.

Secondly, the allure of Stanford is very nice but it is not absolute by any stretch. Some individuals like to be somewhat rooted locally to their home and family. Moving to California is moving a long ways from home.

My son did this (Producer for World of Warcraft) and he likes the area however he's thinking of returning east. Why? The cost of living is ridiculously high. $1M for a simple three bed room 1600 sq ft house in no special location.

Second, there are NO women. With Apple, Google, et al, a million young (male) engineers flocked to the area. The ratio is the worst in the country. Atlanta is a direct opposite.

Living conditions are awful. Liberals held back development so much that there is a complete lack of living options.

Considering that so many kids end up living near their college choice, Stanford is no easy decision over Georgia Tech.

Uh Right. Sure. And neither do any of the 15 Prep Schools in Baltimore. None of them offer athletic scholarships.

no Ivy League school is allowed to offer any athletic scholarship, that means that none of the athletes can be pressured to stay on teams either

the dropout rate of athletes from their sports teams (not from their schools) at Ivy League is therefor much higher than normal
