So I just watched the highlights on Talkin' Football

I was at the game so I didn't get a chance to see the view from TV. Obviously the entire conversation was about Matt Ryan...for good reason. BUT...on nearly every single highlight they rolled, I picked out a blatant hold.

I know it's been a topic beaten to death in the last 48 hours but to see it on tv for the first time is really shocking.
 
There's holding on every play in football. You could go over any game film and do the same thing. We were just beaten by a better team, that is all.
 
The refs were letting a lot of holding pass. But they were (not) calling it the same both ways. BC capitalized on it. We didn't.
 
I know nobody wants to say this or hear it, but I'm gonna say it anyway. I think the outcome would have been a lot different if we had decent refs.

I'm not just talking about the holding either. Let's say that had the "dropped" pass for a first, and the "step out of bounds" for a first been called correctly, one of those drives would have went for a td. And lets say that had the holding been called more closely, and the PI calls taken away, BC scores one less touchdown. Makes it much more of a game in my eyes.

And I'm not even saying that Tech should have won, b/c we were obviously outplayed. But I do think that the game would have been much different....less trash on the field anyways.

I can't wait to see the replays of those plays tomorrow on CSS.
 
Only calls I was pissed about was one of the PIs in the 3rd quarter and JJ stepping out of bounds.
 
Third time I've posted about this.....

The WORST call was the pass interference on Gary Guyton. This was an amazing play by him on a third down. They would have punted with the score 0-14 and us with the momentum.

Instead, they keep the ball and score, making it 0-21. This was the tipping point. This is where the game was lost. On this penalty. I'm not saying we definitely would have rolled, but this was our window.

The announcers repeatedly mentioned how bad of a call it was. I think as many people as possible should write a letter to the AA, care of Gary Guyton, and thank him for that tremendously athletic and clutch play. I'll be doing this first thing in the morning, tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure that was on a first down. I watched it again last night but have deleted from my dvr so maybe i'll watch or tape the css replay.
 
Agree the Guyton PI was absurd and important.

Also the bogus out-of-bounds call on Greg Smith. It is insane that this was not overturned by the replay officials. Any idiot could see from the replay he had the first down by several yards. (And I do mean ANY idiot, because even Bob Davie could see it.)

This was a very important play also because we were moving the ball and it was very early in the 3rd quarter.

Also note that Greg Smith was thrown down out of bounds at then end of that play. It wasn't bad, but it was definitely worse that when Robo (?) bumped Sharpley from Notre Dame and got a 15-yd foul. Where is the consistency?

That looked bad live, but when you watched the replay it looked like the BC defender was trying to hold him up and Smith tripped.

Yet there was no flag thrown. How bad did Robo's touch of Sharpley look?

There was no flag because it wasn't a penalty. Refs are human and therefore make mistakes. Consistency is impossible given that fact.

Wait - aren't you the same person that said it looked bad live?:confused:

I'm sorry if you really feel that consistency is impossible. If that's really the case, there shouldn't be officials on the field - every game should be officiated by replay.

Heck, there was an official in the UVa/UNC game that couldn't even tell if a flipping field goal was good or not. What was that official's purpose on the field?
 
It looked bad from the camera angle that we had on TV, but that doesn't mean it looked that way from the angle the official had on the field.

The guy made the correct call and you're bitching about him not making the wrong one?
