What do you think of having one of these for football as is done for basketball?
First of all, how can there be a word such as de-commit?
Defintion of commit:
1) to obligate
2) to pledge oneself
3) to bind as by a promise
Once you obligate, pledge, or bind...it seems nonsensical to have a "de" in front of it. That would just mean you never "committed" in the first place!
Anyway...back to the discussion.
Early commitments woud allow kids to focus on their senior year in class and on the football field without the pestering of recruiter and recruiting services.
It would also allow colleges to "commit" to a kid without fear of having them "de-commit" after you have turned away possible other recruits because you were full at the position.
Downside is that it would leave less room for kids that grow and blossom on the field late and have tremendous senior years as I could see many schools filling up early. Heck....Texas had 20+ "commits" before August!
Thoughts?
