a "vanilla" offense under PJ?

Each year as the season approached, we seemed to "go vanilla" early on, and especially in the open scrimmages. Does PJ even have a vanilla variation, or is it just his normal offense? Will we see the full offense day 1 for the most part?
 
Yeah, same as any other new offense.

There are wrinkles in blocking schemes. There are "trick" plays. You can't install everything instantly. So you do one. Then the next. Etc.

I doubt CPJ will change much between open and closed practices. There is plenty of film out there on what he will do.
 
Outside of less motion, and maybe a little less slot/a back play, and some different blocking, Im not really sure how "vanilla" the spread can be, it sort of is what it is and the action all happens within the play.

Maybe Im missing something though?
 
Yep. There is a lot of film out there on what the Johnson offense will be. The problem has always been figuring out how to stop it. Over the years that's been really tough to do. I don't see that changing at GT.

Agreed. The spread and triple option is mostly based on read and pulling on the OL. I'd say it would be very hard to run vanilla plays unless there are a bunch of straight handoffs to the fullback.

Certainly can't be more vanilla that the old regime's philosophy: draw for 1 yd, draw for 2 yds, dump off pass underneath for 3 yds. :dunno:
