Who are we hiring for HC next year?

Serious question: Can GT afford Venables? Venables makes almost as much if not more than Paul Johnson does as HC. Would you take a pay cut to go from the land of IPTAY opulence and loose academics to stringent academics and lesser facilities across the board and an athletic department still in a hangover from Radakovich's credit card and Bobinsquatch's outright incompetence?
Venables reminds me of Bud Foster. A coach that seems content being a DC in a great situation that can coach without having to deal with the distractions and hassles of being a HC.

I don't have any slam dunk names to toss out. Everybody I can think of is either unrealistic (Venables) or doesn't have a spotless resume (McIntyre, Whisenhunt, etc). I would suggest though that the next guy whenever there is one should take recruiting as seriously as Pastner does, and not just poo poo it all the time. They need to have a deeply entrenched and established network of HS coach contacts throughout the southeast. If they don't they'd damn well better make that their first hire.

We need the coordinator who is ready for the HC gig. Going into the HC pool isn’t realistic given our budget.

I wish we could hire Monken or Niamontalolo (however the öööö it's spelled). CPJ's faults are outside the offense. Of course, this will never happen in a million years.

I've never heard that Bud Foster was content as DC. He interviewed for a bunch of HC positions, and was angry when he wasn't given a chance after Beamer left. It took a lot to get him to stay under Fuentes.

You can't tell me that somewhere along the way that there wasn't a school that didn't give him an offer to be a HC.

Sure but he kept holding out for a better position. Of course the Little Sister of the Poor would be happy to have him. But he wanted a better opportunity. And he never got it.

GTFO with that noise.

We have a talent problem. Hiring another service academy coach isn't going to help us get better athletes.

If the goal is to get better athletes, there is only so much that hiring a new coach can do. There are obviously better recruiters out there. I can't think of any that are going to be measurably more successful at bringing in talent than CPJ.

If we are talking existing old head coaches, then give me the pirate lawyer.

I'd prefer some young coordinator ready for a chance or a HC from a smaller school that is up and coming. What is the risk? Winning 5-6 games a year?

when we get our next coach, we need to get a system that doesn't hamper recruiting anymore than we already are hampered by Ma Tech. IMO, we don't need another service academy offense after CPJ leaves.
