I rewatched the 2017 GT/duke game and our DL lowkey manhandled dukes OL. Which is weird to say with as many points as they put up. Some REAL blatant holds that went uncalled we weren’t great at containment. But I’m not sure we blitzed more than a couple times all game and our below average DL kind of overwhelmed their OL. Their LT in particular was horrendous. Our DL is better and we will be blitzing a lot more.

TL;DR: I anticipate blitzes, sacks, and holding penalties.

I mean I would nothing more than to shred Duke on every single ööööing play but ACC refs have no ööööing idea what holding is when we play defense. It's really irritating.

Holding is safer than cut blocking plus it keeps the QB from getting hit.. welcome to pansy ball 2018

I agree. That was a weird game from a technical standpoint. Regarding this year, I wouldn't anticipate getting too many holding calls against a team that hails from tobacco road, just to save yourself the frustration. I'd wager the O/U on holding called against Dook to be 2....including special teams. We will be lucky to get that.

Their first drive was crazy. The ball hit the deck three separate times and they covered all three. Then it was capped with a ball thrown straight to our DB in the end zone but their WR was able to strip him. Then they end up getting a tipped screen pass INT to set up a score. We just couldn’t catch a break.

Didn’t see a single throw longer than 15 yards downfield (I did start skipping through the second half). Which attests to their OL losing. Just can’t break containment.

I'm curious to see how CNW schemes for this game. Throwing numbers at the QB isn't gonna work if they're getting the ball out so quickly. Will we jam WRs at the line to throw off their timing? Use zone blitzes to confuse the QB when DLs drop into throwing lanes?

This. I would love to see us press up a little more occasionally. It doesn't have to be nose-to-nose all of the time, just throw off the timing now and then to allow a blitz to get home.
