Look no further than how Conf USA power Old Dominion (currently 1-6) did it:

Notably, ODU QB stat line:
Blake LaRussa 30/49 495 10.1 4 0

VPI committed a single turnover (1 INT, no fumbles).

Just one week later, mighty Duke (4-1) would play VPI.

Here's the mighty Blue Devil Rushing stat line:
TEAM 36 71 2.0 1 10

Duke got dominated. Only one turnover by Duke - no fumbles.

VPI is currently 30th in the nation in Team Rushing Defense but 121st in the nation in Team Defense Passing Yards Allowed. To put that into perspective, CNW's boys are ranked 45th and 73rd respectively in those categories.

So the (navy) Blueprint is clear: To beat VPI, you need to throw it and catch it. Going rush-heavy ensures we'll be 3-5 after the BYE week. We have the gift of a Bye week to prepare for the VPI joke of a passing defense. Let's hope CPJ uses it wisely.

We are not going to develop a passing game in one week when we have not been able to do it in five years. CPJ will use the longer prep time to try and tweek our option execution in hopes of resurrecting our clock control offense. He is far more interested in winning a personal duel with Bud Foster, having just been embarrassed again by Granny Cutcliffe. He'd probably like to win the game, but this is more like a $100 Nassau on the golf course than it is about winning a football game.

TaQuon's stat line from last year's game was 2 for 8, 140 yards, 2 TD's, 1 INT.

So if you extrapolate that to 45 attempts, it would be something like 11 for 45, 784 yards, 11 Touchdowns, 6 interceptions.

I think we all know we're not gonna come out slinging the ball, and nor should we because we're not good at it. We just need to pass enough to make them pay for being aggressive, and convert on the opportunities they give us. Marshall's stat lines from Bowling Green (or even Tennessee or VT last year) would be good enough:

Bowling Green 5-6 140 yds
Tenn 2017 5-9 120 yds
VT 2017 2-8 140 yds 2 TDs
