Johnson to retire

Ah yes. The world where Briles is too toxic but Freeze isn’t. Also known as Fantasyland.

Briles oversaw a sexual assault ring and did nothing to stop it. Some say he even encouraged it by dismissing the accusations and covering them up. Huge difference between that and what Freeze was doing.

That’s why I like it. Change the GT flags on the field to Jolly Rogers. Wear grass colored uniforms. Blast the PA during the opposing team’s offensive plays. Just win.

I like this idea. Let’s couple it with some fan experience improvements like the injured opponent t-shirt toss, selling hard liquor at the concession stand, and converting the club seats to a strip club.

So do we hire a NFL defensive type coach and keep the triple option? If not, I think we should consider going to an old school pro offense. We can get the tall stand up throwing quarterback and we usually can get the OT's and WR's. Many programs are going to the running athletic quarterback and I think competing with them will be very difficult. Hence why I'd go back to the less mobile throwing quarterback.

After 40 years of coaching, it’s time to take a break,” Johnson said. “My family has sacrificed a lot over the years. I want to watch my daughter [Kaitlyn, a professional opera singer] perform and do some things with my wife [Susan] that we’ve never had a chance to do. It’s been a great run for the last 11 years here on The Flats. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and am looking forward to having the chance to coach this team one last time at our bowl game next month."

Thanks, Coach.

Be careful what you wish for CPJ haters ..our next coach has to do better than - -

In addition to the three ACC Coach of the Year awards (2008, 2009, 2014), eight bowl appearances (2008-14, 2016), three bowl victories (2012, 2014, 2016), three ACC title games (2009, 2012, 2014) and 75 wins, Johnson’s long list of accomplishments at Georgia Tech includes:

• four nine-win seasons (2008, 2009, 2014, 2016) – Tech had just seven nine-win seasons in the 51 years immediately preceding Johnson’s arrival;
• two of the nine 10-win seasons in program history (2009, 2014);
• one of the five 11-win seasons in program history (2014);
• six first- or second-place finishes in the ACC Coastal Division – the only other ACC teams that have finished first or second in their division as many times in the last 10 seasons are Clemson (8), Florida State (7) and Virginia Tech (7);
• leading the ACC and ranking among the top 10 nationally in rushing offense every season;
• leading the nation in rushing offense twice – 2010 (323.3 ypg) and 2014 (342.1 ypg);
• compiling seven of the top 10 seasons in school history in terms of rushing offense;
• compiling six of the top 10 seasons in school history in terms of total offense;
• scoring at least 30 points in a game 63 times (going 51-12 in those contests);
• a 9-5 record (.643) at home against nationally ranked opponents (including three wins over top 10 teams)

While I completely agree with your point, in that those dancing in the streets that CPJ is leaving are underselling his accomplishments, throwing in the "leading the ___ in rushing" stats are a bit misleading, because of how skewed our run-pass ratio is. I would hope that in an offense where we run the ball 85% of the time, we'd be at the top of just about every list of rushing metrics.

Well, we will see. I guess we are going to get to look like Duke, UVa, VT, and all the other ööööty teams running boring offenses now.

And for those whining about losing to UGAg, there may be 5 teams in the country that could beat UGAg and only two would be favored going into the game.
