Attention Triple Option Fans

Did you start this thread as a last chance to have a fumb argument about the option? I liked it when it worked. It was hindering us in recruiting. I'm happy with our new coaching hire. Onwards and upwards. Stop being such a dick sucking maggot.

I started it because I’m tired of seeing people bitch about not hiring Monken.

The offense sucks. If you like it, you suck too.

I just hope this thread doesn't get necrobumped in a few years due to having a dismal offense. I like the TO and understand the reason we had it at Tech; not sure if the haters do. I feel optimistic about Collins, though, whatever he does with the offense.

I love the option, but didn't love the recruiting limitations (whether those were more system-related or PJ-specific I'm not really interested in debating) and how much of a train wreck we often looked like in obvious passing situations. If it were still in vogue and/or if we had the personnel that Nebraska and Oklahoma had for it, it would be worth keeping.

I suspect the die-hard, option-or-bust fonts will be just as annoying in the coming years as the anti-option ones have been in PJ's tenure. Any time we don't convert a 4th & short, we'll hear about it.

“Why is it that during recruiting season they sign all the great players, but when it comes time to play the game, we have all the great players? I don’t understand that. What happens to them?”

“I don’t know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended.”

Edit: My bad, that was Spurrier

Who on here is bitching about not hiring Monken? I don't think I've seen a single post to that effect.

There are some posts about preferring Monken, but iiwii

I'm fine with another system, but I will miss watching it. I'll miss those times where you just knew we would make a 4th down and run it down the other teams throats as well as death marches. It is what it is. I'll look forward to being successful with another scheme and catch the 3O with other teams.
I'll miss the fourth down draw-them-offsides ploy.

It actually worked several times. The only problem I had is not just taking the 5 yard penalty. We'd always blow a timeout to get the punt team on.

Of course, JT5 just ran the damn play against Kentucky in the greatest use of it ever

I'm bumping this thread the first time we get stuffed on 3rd down on the goal line running a shotgun zone read.
Surely we will have an under center play for the goal line. Hell, Clemson, Bama, UGAg.....all the best teams can get under center when needed.

I do. It was amazing.

Outside of that two-game stretch vs Duke and UNC, there were only a few teams in the country who performed better.

Somewhat off topic, but I've gone to 4 Tech games in NC since moving here in 2014... all losses (UNC 2014, FSU 2014, Duke 2015, UNC 2016).

There are a few things I will miss and an equal amount of things I won’t miss.

The midline, run effectively, was great to watch; and whenever we got to the pitch man you always knew a big play may be brewing.

I won’t miss 25 keepers a game; I won’t miss the qb dropping back the wrong way; won’t miss OL in a 3 pt stance for obv pass plays. Won’t miss qbs that can’t throw better than the guys I tailgate with.

I’m sure I’ll be equally upset when we punt on 4th and 2 or line up in the gun on the goal line. But I’m ready for the change.

That guy is answering a direct question from you, and without any type of hystrionics. If you don't want to hear about someone preferring a different coach, why are you going out and asking them to say it?

The reaction to the Collins hire has been overwhelmingly positive, and even people who would have preferred someone different have been largely quiet.

The only reason we're discussing the triple option now, and the only reason why Monken was talked about in that thread, is because you brought it up. So if you're tired of hearing about it, maybe you should stop talking about it.

I love any offense that works and hate one that does’t. The system is not what matters. It is about putting good players in the right places, good scheming against the defenses you face, calling the right plays and making the right adjustments. And, the players have to execute.
