Do we need another QB commit?

I’d imagine he’d want to get guys in that best fit what he wants to do, so yea, QB is the most important position in the field.

That said, I know nothing about the guy mentioned

Kennique Bonner-Steward, Temple commit seems interested in Tech. Would CGC try to poach him? Would a commit talk a coach into offering him if he'd rather follow the coach? Do we even need another QB, or will we be ok with what we have?

https://n.rivals.com/news/temple-qb-commit-kennique-bonner-steward-talks-gt-miami-owls

Interview made it plain he is an offer away from committing to us, but CGC is not going to do anything until this dead period is over. And he did not say, "Sorry, KBS, I am not going to poach you."

Do we take him? All we know is CGC evaluated him as worth a 'ship at Temple, running the offense he was planning on running there. His offense will be similar here, but....

Who will our OC be? That kinda matters. How does he view our qb commits? Good kids, but selected for a different system. Who else does CGC think he might land this year?

I don't think we sign any other quarterback besides ones CGC has already been on. So KBS or a fish that decided Temple was too small a pool but GT is not are possibilities.

Or he stays with the two we have, who are ranked slightly higher than KBS. That does not mean they are higher than KBS on CGC's board, but it does mean CGC can't have an opinion on signing KBS until he gains an opinion on JY and DK.

My instinct is we take all three, and two stay at qb. I also suspect there is no one else CGC plans on possibly poaching, so if he decides not to sign KBS, he will be able to say, "I want you, but I want to be fair to Temple, so sorry." Still, I think he brings in KBS if he things KBS can help him.

We have a QB committed already that is a dual threat. Jordan Yates has guided Milton into the AAAAAAA state championship game tonight at 8pm at MB stadium. It's on GPB. I imagine CGC will be there.

I think we are pretty solid with Graham, Yates and Lucas. But if CGC thinks we need this one, then get him.

Our 2nd qb commit of this class, Demetrius Knight, will most likely be switching positions if he signs.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a graduate transfer QB, since it would be a good opportunity for playing time for one year. LJ is coming off an injury, and our other QBs are young. Depending on the new OC, he would probably want an experienced passer on the roster, even if he ends up not being needed.

Here's a site that tracks potential grad transfers.

https://gradtransfertracker.com/

DeAndre Johnson might be interesting, former FSU guy but he punched a girl and ended up on Last Chance U. Doubt we would go that route.

Here's what we'll have on the roster next season:

Lucas Johnson (RS-Jr)
Tobias Oliver (RS-Soph) likely position switch/transfer
James Graham (RS-Fr)
Jordan Yates (Fr)
Demetrius Knight (Fr) likely position switch/decommit

Even removing Oliver and Knight from the equation, adding another QB would give us three freshmen next year and would really throw off the balance of our classes. I'm just not sure if it makes sense to take another QB unless we REALLY like him or REALLY don't like the current guys.

I wish I could share your enthusiasm

I'm scared to death about our QB situation

Our new offense is gonna need a QB that can drop back and attempt 25-35 passes per game vs. P5 level talent

Honestly speaking, none of the guys that are on scholly that CPJ is leaving behind give me that confidence

My opinion is that we have zero QBs for next season, I'm worried and hoping for a Graduate Transfer

I don't think it's that dire, but I suppose much depends on the OC hire and what they try to do in year 1. Graham is a heck of an athlete with a pretty good raw arm. I don't know what Lucas can do, but people have been calling on him to start for a while now because he can supposedly throw. Yates is a good passer who would probably be a 4 star recruit if he were a couple of inches taller.

I am not opposed to finding someone on the grad transfer market if need be. It's hard to say without knowing exactly what the vision for the offense is in year 1.

Keep in mind that our QBs will at least be able to start from the Shotgun instead of under center. That will give them a fighting chance.

Didn't we have a Preferred Walk-on pro style QB in the spring? Ryan Lantz?

Isn't Lucas the QB we got from out West

If he has the talent to throw 25-35 times a gm vs. P5 competition, then there has to be a reason that very few P5 schools out West wanted him as a QB, IIRC we were his only P5 offer at QB, I think he had some G5 offers IIRC

Please correct me if I'm wrong about Lucas

Jordan Yates is listed at 6’1”. Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray are both listed shorter than Jordan. Don’t think height will be an issue in the right system.

I think LJ is considered a good passer for a run-first offense, but doubt he would be a starting QB at a P5 program that throws a lot. Our new OC will have to make do with what he has on the roster, which might mean we still run a lot next season.

Unless Jalen Hurts wants to come here, I think we have some pretty good options in Lucas, Tobias, and James. Yates obviously redshirts. Knight looks like a baller that may need to change positions

Gonna need bigger qbs capable of working from the pocket, reading defenses and getting the ball out quick — not guys looking to run first. I’m hoping for a grad transfer as well.

I expect things to be pretty rocky otherwise on O; it will be a big learning curve for all of our current QBs to learn a new scheme and get comfortable doing things they have never done at this level — essentially they are all true freshman
