Anyone know if it would even be possible now for some of our defensive players to wear this helmet while the rest of the players wore our regular helmet?
My understanding was at one time the rules stated teams had to wear the same hat design, outside of “award stars”. Things like buckeyes, tomahawks, etc.

But base helmet all had to be the same. Don’t know if still applies.

But not very conducive to TEAM building when a handful of players have different unis.

These gimmicks are nice until you lose to furman or get bombed by puke u, as temple did,

But would be interesting to see our white, gold, black & blue unis.

What this really means is that the next time we get a bowl invite we will wear black pants and black jerseys.

Yeah, I am thinking it gives Adidas an alternative uni to market/sell. Maybe throwback game where everyone wears the black.
As long as we don't try a blackout, it would be ok.

You can do it with a black arm band, i think that would be an awesome way to represent and take pride in your work.

What did the term "Blackwatch" mean back in the 80s? Did we wear black jerseys back then or something?

I think it is against the rules for the main helmet decals to be different colors on different players. You can have the little achievement stickers, but the main decals have to be the same.

It was mainly the black stripe and black GT on the helmet as pictured above. At first it was just a couple of guys on defense that had "earned" the helmet like Swilling and Roof. I think most of starters on defense had the black helmet by end of the season.

"Blackwatch" was a term used from a Irish Guard of something of the sort.

The “Black Watch,” the nickname Lindsey conferred upon his defense that fall, glorified big hitters and rewarded them, too. The prize: A thick black stripe painted down the middle of Tech’s otherwise all-gold helmets. It went only to the heaviest of hitters — especially middle linebacker Ted Roof, the heart and soul of the Black Watch; and to No. 99, Swilling, its most talented and dangerous Watchman.

That autumn, the Black Watch enabled the Jackets to go 9-2-1, losing only to Virginia and Auburn, tying Tennessee and beating Georgia for the second year in a row. Behind Swilling and Roof, the Black Watch allowed just 10.7 points per game that year, holding opponents to seven points or less five times.

Georgia Tech finished second in the ACC (5-1 in conference play) and went to its first bowl in seven years. In the All-American Bowl in Birmingham, Tech rallied to beat Michigan State 17-14, finish 18th in the final UPI poll and post its best record since Bobby Dodd’slast team went 9-2 in 1966.

We should just make black stickers the exact same size as the decal, and put it on top of the GT decal. We can just claim that they aren’t decals, and that they are stickers. Or we can color them in with sharpie:dunno:

I asked Ted Roof to do this years ago at one of those GT days where the players and coaches sign öööö for fans and he was like oh we'll see. Whatever Ted. We saw.
Personally I am against reviving the Blackwatch until we actually have a top 10 defense and players on D who distinguish themselves. Roll it out too soon and it becomes a Black Swatch.

I asked him the same thing that day. I think you and I were in line together.

Temple's @swaGTroopers account was created May 4, 2017 and the password reset goes to the same gmail account as @_swaGTroopers, created 12/30/2018. Both tweet 100% from iPhones.
