This is an interesting idea. I'm vaguely approving.

That said, I wonder if the SID will stop tracking starts – there are plenty of stats that incorporate starts, so it could make it difficult for the talking heads to give their usual spiels.

He did this at Temple so it isn’t new. He is emphasizing the initials bc of the Atlanta tie in. There was an article about it in a Temple papers.

The basic point of ATL is that he believes in depth so it motivates everyone that will play to give their best where some people are only motivated to start or not. He wants to de-emphasize that thinking. It makes a lot of sense to me.
I've never understood the concept of elevating "starters" in a sport where players are subbed in EVERY play. And different plays have different combination of personnel that are best for them.

What about the guys who play on the first snap, as opposed to the second snap, make the first snap players so much more special?

Moving away from the concept of starters being elevated is a good thing IMO.

The same is true in basketball. It doesn't matter that you're amongst the 5 people on the court on tip off. What matters is how many minutes you've played by the end of the game. What matters significantly more is whether you're among the 5 people on the court at the end of a closely contested game. Basketball should be talking more about "closers" than "starters". The #ATL concept really suits football IMO.

I believe the philly.com article points out that the ATL grouping bolds players who started in the previous game. So starters are still tracked post game.

Should have taken Pastner with him to that set.
Interesting you say that. I'm hoping the recruiting efforts of Collins rubs off on the rest GTAA. Maybe Todd looks at the other coaches in other sports and makes it known you better get off your ass and recruit more.

Dont think Pastner's recruiting problem is lack of effort, though.

If Collins really succeeds in making GT Atlanta's team (and he sure seems to be off to a good start), then that will absolutely help with basketball recruiting even if Pastner doesn't change at all.

One benefits the other as far as football and MBB go. We have been in an extended period where neither of our main revenue teams have been a sexy pick for recruits.
