If we had hired someone else, I might be pretty pissed because I was high on Elliott. As it stands, I’m very happy at moment with CGC.
I am high on CGC right now as well. I thought it was interesting Elliott would come out and say this

And ... now y'all know why some of us are pissed with how this went down. The fix was in from about October. It was always going to be Collins. There was no job search. The Whisenhunt trial balloon was just to get everybody worked up over an obviously bad hire, so that when they announced it was Collins it would be seen as a "good" choice rather than the hire of a retread NFL coach.

It also shows his character that he would say this what, a day before his game against Bama? What is he mad that he's not getting any offers from any other schools?
Someone probably asked him at media day

Elliot has never been a head coach. He needs to move along from the safety of Dabo and show what he can do as the head guy. GT took Collins because he had experience at Tech, is a Hell of a recruiter, is enthusiastic about the program, and has been a head coach.

He was never a candidate. Apparently he has a weird personality and might not be head coach material.

Sounds like a process where th decision makers did their research ahead of time so they didn’t have to make a rushed decision at the end.

I think introverted more like Chan. He would have recruited well but needs to take a FCS/Sunbelt job first to see how good of a head coach he would be.
Also to get some experience on hiring other coordinators. Learn elsewhere, apply at GT...

This says it all. You go with what you know. Very few programs go with Coordinator's unless they have proven themselves for along enough time. And the other elephant in the room. How much do you value previous experience at Tech? or somewhere similar? Its one thing to say you are familiar with the area/conference/city. Its another to know what you can do with the resources you have. Tech is not Clemson and cannot match it at least in $$ for the current future. Elliot works well when he has the resources and draws on the experience of being at Clemson (was a player there too). But is really young, and only been co-OC for 3yrs. Who do you take knowing that hiring a FB coach will define you as an AD?

Actually this was the plan since September 2016. Todd gets hired as AD, 3 months later Collins gets his first HC job after Temple AD Patrick Kraft receives a sizeable donation to his savings account by an anonymous donor. Then Collins gets his "head coach experience" at Temple, while a sinister Todd pays Taquon Marshall to throw every big game and go hug uga players after losing to them, causing unrest amongst the fanbase even amongst the biggest CPJ fans. Then after Todd successfully destroys all of CPJ'S credit, CPJ's worn down, unable to sleep at night, and decides to retire without taking a single dollar from GTAA. Then Todd goes into hiding with Collins for two weeks, tells a few breaking news "journalists" he's about to sign Whisenhunt, knowing the fanbase will be livid. Then after he lets us stew for a couple weeks he resurfaces with Collins as the new hire, and we're all grateful Whisenhunt wasnt hired and excited about this Collins guy.

It's ööööing genius.

I heard O’Leary and Collins had the fix in since 2000
