Summary:

Education was the number one thing. He wants a Liberal Arts degree; possibly Anthropology.

Speaks highly of the new staff and thinks they will be successful, but didn't sound enthusiastic about playing in a transition year.

Thinks having film against a different schedule of opponents will help his NFL prospects. He is thinking about moving to Center because he is undersized for an NFL guard.

Works out by himself at the Campus Rec Center with the regular students (for those who were debating whether he should still work out with the team).

Has visited Florida and is planning visits to Texas, Ohio State and Auburn.

He’ll graduate in May with a degree in literature, media and communication.

1 degree? 3 degrees? What other degrees do we have for non-math focused student athletes.....?

Best of luck to Parker! I honestly wish him the best in the future. He's also leaving in the classiest way possible which I am super thankful for!

Obviously I only mean that if he ends up at any school besides UGA. Preferably out of the ACC as well...

Sounds like he wants to see how he does against SEC DL. Hope he goes to Florida and kills it.

1 degree. If he wants to be a community college professor of anthropology, Tech won’t get him there. He’ll need an MA and PhD, which in that field takes about 10 years.

You do not need a PhD to teach at a community college.

would love to have seen him stay. he'd the best player returning on offense.
i wonder if we're still recruiting his "little" brother - the 6-6 4 star offensive tackle out of Live Oak, Fla. Everything I see has the little brother going to Florida.
Parker absolutely was a rolling ball of butcher knives. rewatched some games and watching him pull on trap or counter option was a thing of beauty.

The technical requirement to teach college is a master's degree. However, in the social sciences, there aren't many positions for PhD's other than education. As a result, there are way more PhDs than there are jobs, resulting in pretty much every education position, including community college, essentially requiring a PhD. It's also why there are people with PhDs in History, Gender Studies, and Musicology working at Starbucks.

Compare this to Engineering or Business or Physics or Economics, where there are more non-education related jobs. You find many (most?) community college positions in those fields filled by people with master's degrees.

Yeah, I know some Social Science MA's taking PT adjunct work and working as baristas or in bookstores otherwise. Even the PhDs have trouble if they aren't willing to move literally anywhere. Its brutal. Me, I have a low paying private sector archaelogy gig.

The game he played against Minnesota that Collins attended didn't do him any favors if he was thinking about staying. I don't think he will fare very well at all in an offense that requires pass protection. But best of luck to the guy. He tried hard at GT for several years.

What? The guy is the best offensive lineman we’ve had since Shaq.

If we are basing things on that game, Collins should process the whole team. I think Parker will do well.

The thing is, if he claims it’s about academics, then goes to Florida, we know it’s not about academics.

If you care about academics: go to Harvard, Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Rice
If you care about athletics: Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio State, Kentucky
If you want a balance: Michigan, Texas, Berkeley, UCLA

I think Florida's anthropology grad program is pretty good. I had a coworker who was pretty stoked to get in there.

Is your PhD in Reductionism? I hear around here that's a promising field.

It’s one thing to start over with a new coach, but it’s another to also overhaul the entire offense as well as key positions like we will be doing. He wasn’t willing to do both.
It’s not that hard if you’re talented at football.
