Parker Braun explains his decision

Unofficial visits? Why unofficial? I don’t think he’s going to an SEC school on scholly if he’s only taking unofficial visits. If they were interested in giving him a scholarship, he would be receiving the full blitz. Curious...

Are you sure grad transfers get to take official visits? Maybe if he had already graduated but technically he is still a student at GT until May. I don’t think you are allowed to “recruit” students at another university unless they have graduated. For instance Ezzard from Miami took an unofficial to GT as he is still a student at Miami.

We “recruited” Southard from Vandy as he graduated in November/December. Same with UConn transfer I believe.

The thing is, if he claims it’s about academics, then goes to Florida, we know it’s not about academics.

If you care about academics: go to Harvard, Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Rice
If you care about athletics: Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio State, Kentucky
If you want a balance: Michigan, Texas, Berkeley, UCLA

Florida’s football team is dumb. Had an argument with a friend who went there about why SEC typically recruits better and admission standards was my argument. Low and behold the article I found to back it up had GT as the #1 FBS program for SAT scores of football players and Florida was dead last (private schools weren’t included).

But UF is a good school overall. So I wouldn’t think Braun is BSing about that being a priority. He’ll just be the smartest football player there.

It’s one thing to start over with a new coach, but it’s another to also overhaul the entire offense as well as key positions like we will be doing. He wasn’t willing to do both.

That doesn’t make sense. He’ll be in the same boat at a different school except not only are the coaches and offense different, all his teammates will be different too. The difference, and perhaps this is what he meant, is that everyone there already knows the offense, so he can learn from his teammates as well as the coaches whereas at GT all his teammates will be learning the offense too.

It’s not that hard if you’re talented at football.

I'm sure personally he certainly believes that for himself. However, I bet he doesn't feel that way for several others that will be making the whole sale change. Yes, it's still football but it will more then likely be a transition year for the team and I don't believe he wanted to deal with it.

I believe we're thinking alike. The coaches will be different and the offense will be different for him. However, where he goes it will not be new to the majority of the team. Here the offense will be new for everyone and I don't believe he wanted to go through what will most likely be a transition year. I think he believes he'll benefit more from people that have been doing what he's going to be doing and not having to work alongside people trying to figure it out at this level for the first time.

If he wants to leave, he can leave. The explanation seems contrived, but it is his choice. Once upon a time he made a "forty year decision" that turned into a four year decision.

This dude took official visits.

The rules may have changed in the past 5 years, but I believe they do.

What’s your reasoning for that? I’ve always thought of UF as a solid school. They’re actually tied with us in the 2019 US World News Report for public schools.

Tech folks get pretty elitist about what is good. Florida is a great state school approaching UNC. That does not mean you can’t skate by there if you are an athlete and choose an easy major. But it’s still a very good school where you can get an excellent education with a plethora of options to choose from.

...

Thinks having film against a different schedule of opponents will help his NFL prospects. He is thinking about moving to Center because he is undersized for an NFL guard.
...

The first does not matter. The second is a good idea, but not critical. I bet he could have transitioned to center here.

Love Parker's play, but his pro position is center. He does not have the arm length to stay at guard. A lot of college guards transition to center. Wonder if he tried to transition while here in the past, or if he has talked about it to the new staff.

I think there are solid reasons he could have stayed. Key is a great O-Line coach, one of the best in the country. But I see his rationale on some of his other points. Wish him well at the end of the day.

If he thinks he was going to play center, he wasn't going to play over a healthy Kenny Cooper

It’s the standards set by the school and the people at Tech. Professors at Tech aren’t taking it easy on the students ever. Even what’s considered the “relatively easy” courses or majors, they’re making the coursework vigorous and thorough. The easy outs at Tech, so to speak, aren’t easy.
