That's just plain stupid. You can go to Florida and get a great education. You can go to any major college and get a good education. It all depends on what you're trying to study and what programs they offer. If you're looking for major college football you've got to get accepted by the program and by the team, so your choice will be limited by that. But to say that you have to go to one of a handful of colleges to get a good education is BS.

Like Rutgers, Penn State, and Maryland

There’s nothing wrong with Florida, but it’s not a first choice school for academics. It’s a “good school” in the same way that going to Rutgers is a “good school.” But if you could go to any college in the country, let’s say you are the child of the POTUS, is there any reason Florida would make the list?

How many POTUS children have attended GT??

UF has produced twice as many Rhodes scholars as GT. That's not the best measuring stick; but it is interesting to note.

Robert Gentry interestingly has a connection to Georgia Tech. According to Wikipedia, he left the Institute’s doctoral program when they refused him permission to work on the age of the Earth (6000 years) for his dissertation.

That's not good intellectual policy. You let him work on whatever he wants, but tell him that if he writes a dissertation on the age of the Earth and concludes that its 6000 years old, he's either going to win a Nobel Prize or not pass his defense.

He answered the damn question. Everyone knows a good college is one where presidents kids go.

Woodward is much better than Westminster also because that’s where Presidents kids go. And Brown is a helluva lot better school than GT.

US News ranks Georgia Tech #35 for National Universities. They rank Florida #35. It's a tie....kind of funny. We're also both tied for 8th in best public schools.

If I really wanted to go undergrad business, and that was the most important thing to me, I would go to Michigan, Texas or UNC as they are Top 10 business school programs with major college football. Or UVA, Indiana, Notre Dame or Southern Cal.

We can certainly claim the high ground in Engineering, and we have a very good business program that is probably in line with Florida's. For non-engineering disciplines, I'm not sure I would choose Georgia Tech if academics was a key decision point for me.

I don't get it. He really struggled against Georgia and Clemson--- but most do. But go back and watch the Duke game. Watch the Minnesota game. Watch the Pitt game. How many times did we get stuffed on 4th and inches the past 3 seasons? Ans. lots.
