I never knew that closed. I'm assuming they only opened it on game days? We walked through it a couple times last year.
They open it on gamedays but keep it closed otherwise. They didn't close it until 2008, which is kind of funny considering how much the neighborhood has turned around since then, and how much worse it was before then. Of course when I was at Tech in the mid/late 90s crossing over the 5th Street Bridge at night was going into a post-apocalyptic urbanscape and risking your life. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time that they finally reopen it, the more Tech Square has already crept southward and with the addition of all that student housing. Neighborhood ain't so rough anymore.

What is the new building that's going up across Spring next to the bookstore, catty-cornered to that new housing?

Wasn't that building designed by the guys who helped start GT's Architecture program?
One of them, Ed Ivey was a driving force behind the beginning of the program and one of it's earliest students.

My favorite thing about that building is that the front windows are busted out or something and they made plastic or paper covers for them that are painted to look like window panes.

Just stumbled into this thread as well...bumped over to SC deck after parking shuffle this year. Will be interesting to learn the nuances of a new spot. Looking forward to seeing some of you out there.
