Fan turnout this year???

I have been a life long fan of Georgia Tech and have always loved going to games at BD but it has been disappointing seeing the turnout at a lot of games. I understand winning will bring butts to the seats but when will we get enough die hard fans to show up even for the “not so important” games? The players have to see and feel this emptiness. This imo would help recruiting as well. What kind of growth in the seats do we see this year?

Win baby win.
We have not strung together great seasons to gain any momentum for the fan base. That’s reality. Put together consecutive great seasons, win some big games in the process, put some rivals on edge, then it’ll happen. We’ll probably see a modest bump this year but I bet still will look bad on TV, but if we don’t win, back to the usual in 2020?
 
It would be awesome to have a sellout atmosphere at Bobby Dodd all the time, but it's simply not a priority for our student body, leadership, and community.
 
The games at MBS (Clemson, ND twice, whichever other games we end up picking) should be sellouts.

Other than that probably only the U[sic]GA games for the next few years, unless we have a truly amazing turnaround.

That’s pretty much it.
 
Filling the stadium requires the support of the community. And by community I mean more than the folks who around during the Dodd years. Tech alums and students never have and never will fill our stadium.

CGC understood this before he got on the plane and is seizing control of Georgia.

I'm actually not on board with the idea that wins will fill the seats. It takes support and building that support is a tall order that CGC is embracing. Good times are ahead.

Programs across the country have trouble filling their stadiums. Not that that is an excuse for BDS attendance not to be better, but the live gate has been shrinking for a number of years. Winning helps, but I don't see us selling out playing Pittsburgh or Boston College any time soon.
 
Look at individual ticket prices on stubhub. You will see a definite increase in prices even for "not so important games" That tells me the turnout is going to be strong at least for the beginning and if we can win some games and gain momentum we will definitely see a difference.
 
In 2015, we opened the season with Tulane and Alcorn State and had attendance of 50k for both games. The FSU white out game was a sell-out and it wasn't because FSU travels overly well to Atlanta.

Winning takes care of a lot.

Equally as important is Gametime. Noon kickoffs are killers for attendance. We have had far too many of those in recent years.
 
Apathy set in towards the end of CPJ's tenure, so of course turnout was going to be low. CGC has a lot of excitement built up for the program which will result in a big showing by fans early on in the season. What we see on the field after those first few games will determine the turnout for the rest of the season - though I suspect we really won't see a dropoff in attendance until the following season since most have already purchased their tickets.

Also, CGC's cross-promotion with Atlanta United, the Falcons, and the Hawks, should yield a few extra fans as well. We may even have a couple of Waffle House crews buying (or being given) tickets to home games.

I'm excited to see what he does to bring out more fans.

This. I have three boys who all play sports on Saturdays. Many of the games are AM, so the later games just are easier and allow me to actually tailgate some. Big cry me all you want, I still purchase 6 in CL2...

It isn't just local residents with butts in seats. They draw from across the state. No reason we couldn't do the same.

Yep, when Alabama is having issues with their student section being full, then you realize that it's a much wider spread issue than GT's smallish fanbase that doesn't sell out as much.

I am hopeful in a bump in season ticket sales and more student turnout as a result of new enthusiasm around the program. I'll be in my usual seats...

Sure, but proximity of things to do isn't a variable to be ignored. Other important variable that ties into the first one is comparing a major city to a college town (especially in a state with an absence of a major city) for attendance. Never been to Columbia, but it doesn't sound like I'm missing much if attending S. Carolina games is the big attraction.

College town? The metro area has 850,000 residents.

I don't disagree with you that we couldn't with the right efforts, but that is an apples and oranges comparison. We will never be confused with a comprehensive flagship university of the state of Georgia. South Carolina will always be the University of South Carolina, regardless of what Clemson does.

You have to go back 50 years to the time Georgia Tech was an option for the average everyman in this state. Not a problem for South Carolina no matter how much they suck.
