Game 1 News - Clemson

I'm all aboard the hype train, but we are going to be crushed in our first game. Clemson could have named the score last year and will be able to again.

I watched the Clemson spring game on TV. I was one who wrongly thought Dabo wouldn't get it done, but listening to him on the feed shows he knows exactly what he is working to do, and how his staff is aligned with him. The results show it and there is no reason to think it won't continue. With the true freshmen, it looks like they have 4 - yes 4 - first round picks at wide receiver to go with the top pick overall at qb. They ran a real game for the spring game except for protecting the qb. Even the ESPN guys were commenting how different it was. At one point Dabo made the comment about the QB read and said he should have thrown the ball to the other side against the freshman DB instead of against the All-American corner.

Full speed, and they are loaded. Hope we get there too but it won't be in August.
Yeah, it won't be pretty. If it were some other team that typically out-mans us, I'd say we had a shot; new coach, new offense, high energy and optimism, catch them early, etc. but not with this Clemson team.

OTOH, as opposed to an Alcorn State type game, playing Clemson first will give the team a reality check of how far they will have to go and maybe motivate them to work harder.

Frosh, Sophs?
Im no expert whatsoever. These are just observations of a random who attended the spring game.

Its a mix of classes, but not super old, so maybe we can confuse them. But the first team looked pretty dang good at Clemson's scrimmage or Clemson's RBs suck (which I doubt). They got some "flag football" sacks also fwiw.

They are possibly susceptible to injuries because I thought the second string looked notably less formidable. As such they may rotate less and if that results in fatigue then that is good for us as well.

^ you think 4 WRs are going in the 1st Round? Let alone 4 from the same school Wut?
Well Clemson has a chance in two weeks to be the first ever team to have 4 DL drafted in the 1st round *of the same draft*. Three are all definitely going in round 1 and the 4th is on the edge. The amazing thing is the back up to Dexter Lawrence, who filled in terrifically for him in the playoffs when he was suspended, may also be drafted in the late rounds. That is a fricking LOADED team.

There’s been 12 WRs taken in the 1st Round in the last 4 NFL drafts. You think 4 WRs from the same school are going in the 1st?

I mean it would be a feat to have it happen in separate drafts. Maybe that’s what he meant. But I’d venture to say that even three 1st Round WRs in the same drafts is impossible. Just not enough catches/yards to go around.

Edit: after re-reading it looks like he didn’t mean in the same draft.

If we're able to cross midfield let alone get within a breath of the red zone against their 1s even, it will been seen as an improvement over the past 3 years.

öööö you guys. When we when this öööö, I'm gonna be drunk as öööö and bump the öööö outta this thread
Damn straight. F'n A man. öööö, you guys would think we've never beaten a highly ranked team before. We have done it plenty. There is nothing ööööing special about Clemson. You pussies. They put their pants on one leg at a time, just like we do. Only they put on ööööing ugly orange and purple.

None of you know how good our QB's can be. We have better QB's, on paper, now than we had during the days of Chan. For all any of you know Lucas or James or Tobias may just ball the öööö out next season throwing to slot receivers, TE's, and those big WR's we have.

We are beating Clemson, assholes.

Are we the Chaos Creators, or not? What better way to create chaos then to go into Death Valley and beating Clemson week 1?
$$$ down bish. $$$. Trevor getting hit by a sack full of GT on the money down. We getting picks. Someone getting to ride the gold bike

My reaction to the direction this thread has gone –

To clarify: Not all the receivers at Clemson are in one class - a couple are underclassmen. Probably across three future drafts.

I do have faith we are going to get better compared to everyone else in the ACC quickly because I expect our recruiting to improve significantly. I think we underestimate the value of mentally brighter players- being in the right place on the field during a play and not doing something stupid/beating yourselves should be our expectation at GT. Fewer penalties, etc. How many times did we see missed tackles or blocks for example? Our player knew where to be, was there to make the play, great effort, but didn’t. This has been true for a long time, not just Johnson and across multiple offensive and defensive approaches. Slightly better athletes combined with people capable of succeeding in school should yield a lot of W’s. Give me people who want to learn and are capable of learning more quickly than the other guy as well as good physical tools - this isn’t the NFL. A 4.5 in the right place is a better than a 4.4 in the wrong one.

The problem has been the 4.4 getting to the right place before our 4.8 (let's be realistic) can, not that they don't know what the right place is. But we'll see.

4.4? What has your moms told y'all about me? Has moms been blabbing?

I was hoping there'd be a great falloff from last year where they had all those possible 1st rounders.
