I watched Deion play from his first year at N. Ft. Myers High School on and any issue that could ever be had with him would have to do solely with his very focused self-promotion, plain and simple. He doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs and his arrest record is comprised of fishing on an enormous pond bordering the local SWFL airport over two decades ago.
That's it. He was juice before juice was cool...some old people don't like juice.

Rumor at the time was they pretty much begged him to come back as he was the only one that would take the job. The period after Leeman Bennett and before Glanville was probably the low point of the Franchise history - and that's saying something. From making the playoffs 3 out of 5 years after never even being in the playoffs before to "we've plateaued", fire the franchise's winningest coach after a playoff year - the result was that they didn't even sniff the playoffs for a decade. Anyone who bitches about Arthur Blank should really be forced to go back and live these years with the Smiths for all of eternity.
And I never forgave Rankin Jr for badmouthing Georgia Tech saying he would root for the Soviet Union over Ga Tech in hoops.

I was a casual fan up until then. After that...I despised the Atlanta Falcons...and still do with a burning, boiling passion only matched by the same emotion with UGAG.

Looking back...the Smiths hired Marion Campbell not once...but TWICE as head coach.

Unbelievable.

And they hired Eddie LeBaron I do believe. And didn’t Pat Pepper get a shot? And Bobby Petrino, and lil jerry gRanville, and larry “the big lie” munson as radio announcer.

What a cluster f..k.

Eddie Lebaron was GM during the Bennett era then was executive VP during the Dan Henning stint. I think Peppler was the interim coach for a few games after the first Marion Campbell firing.

Well, they did eventually hire Keith Brooking and Wes Durham and I'm sure some others if I put my mind to it...

Arthur Blank makes it tolerable....barely.

Just that the Falcons fans are about as obnoxious at Dwagfans.

I felt the same way, but he and his old man were both drunks. Jr. was/is an incoherent, babbling idiot.

Yes, but rankin smith ( and I could be wrong) made him interim coach for a while. Seems as if I recall the press conference where smith put that c..ksucker hat on LeBarons head and said, WTTE, “your in charge now”.

But all past now.

At least Mr Blank has not tried to hurt GT purposely.

I have family in Denver and latched onto the Broncos as a kid cause the Falcons just looked like ugag to me. Then I learned how much the Falcons organization hated Tech....Super Bowl 33 was fun!
