Louisville dumpster fire never ends

Not a huge story, but the irony of them hiring this dude to essentially police their ööööhole program made me lol.

They are actually recruiting surprisingly well.

What are you basing that on? They signed 15 in 2019 and have 20 committed right now. Only 2 of those 35 are/were 5.7 or higher.

Contrast that with us who have/had 14 out of the 40 guys in those two cycles at 5.7 or higher. And I wouldn’t say we’re exactly setting the recruiting world on fire with these two classes.

I was just looking at the 247 team rankings, where they have been floating around the 20-25 range and picking up large numbers of recruits. Their class is comparable to ours, though a bit lesser on quality, and we are happy with our class. I'm not saying they are crushing it, but for following a horrible season with an unproven coach and all the crap flying around that program, I'd have to say they are doing a respectable job in recruiting.

Dude. Their players are almost across the board lower ranked. They have a lot of commits, but few that we would’ve taken In our class. They’ll end up ranked around 50th at best with their quality of commit.

Duuuuude. Rankings are quantity * quality. They have only one more recruit than us, and are ranked 25 to our 21. Our average recruit rating is barely higher (86 to 85). They won't be at 50 or anywhere near it, that's almost mathematically certain at this late point.

You are incorrect. Rivals bases their rankings off the top 20 recruits in a class. While they may suddenly start landing big fish and move up, given the quality of their 1st 20 this is unlikely.

Look at their points. 1260. That would’ve had them ranked 58th last year.

I see you are using 247 rankings. That disqualifies you from intelligent, informed recruiting conversations.

Rivals sucks compared to 247, and yes I'm using 247. I prefer meta information to a single source.

I was trying hard not to like Louisville, but their fans at the game this year were maybe the nicest I've ever seen at an away game. Even when we were kicking their butt by 5 td's, they were complementary about Tech, the TO, and how it works.

How can any reasonable rating system have only 5 usable grades (only 4 in practice)? It's like A - B - C - D in school. The very best C student is one notch below the worst B student. The highest considered 3-star garners a wildly different ranking coefficient to the lowest rated 4 star. Nevermind that no system could even determine who the better player is between the two of them.

247 properly attempts to give credit across the spectrum. Rivals (and others, not to pick on them) introduces an arbitrary step function that ****s up the data completely.

Ok, look at even 247’s ööööty ranking system. We had a higher average recruit score last year than Louisville does this year and finished 51st. Look at the numbers. An 85.2 ranking isn’t good and would put them around 50th.

This isn’t hard, son.

What’s a semi-pro football team? Is that different from SEC?

No, SEC is pro. The Big 10 is semi-pro, not to be confused with the Big 12 which is arena league. That’s all made even more confusing by the Big 12 having 10 teams and the Big 10 having 14. Then there’s the PAC 12 whose games are technically televised on Sunday but are most certainly not professional. Last but not least is the ACC which sounds more like a cable outlet than a conference despite the conference’s recent success.

I feel (sort of) bad for the guy. HS coaches don't get paid a ton and who knows if there was a lot of unpaid effort required on his part to accommodate the semi-pros. And this was 2 stops ago for this guy. But can't deny that the optics are awful for U of L.

So an 85.2 ranking isn't good. Is a 86.2 ranking good?
