ACC Media Poll

While still funny, this isn't Brett's poll. This was a poll taken of 173 media members at ACC Media days.
So five newspaper guys, 10 TV people and 158 online/fanboi site bloggers?

I’d pick uva our of the Coastal right now. I’ll believe miami is good when I see it. VT has a schedule to win 8 games, but they’re pretty ööööty. And we’re a big question mark.

Preseason media poll accuracy for GT

Poll/actual
2008 4/1T
2009 2/1
2010 3/3T
2011 4/2T
2012 2/1T
2013 4/2T
2014 5/1
2015 1/7
2016 6/5
2017 3/3
2018 3/2
2019 7

Throw out the two outliers (5/1, 1/7) and the average miss is ~1.2 spots (11 delta/9 years). We ded.

End of season standings for the Coastal last year:

1 Pitt
2 GT
3 UVA, UM, VT
6 Duke
7 UNC

So the ACC media think 4/7 teams will finish 0 or 1 place higher than last year, and UVA will rise 2 places. They think Pitt will drop 3 places, and GT will drop FIVE places. That seems like bias to me, even with a coaching and scheme change. I bet if you asked them to recall last year's final standings without looking, they'd guess GT finished 4th or 5th in 2018.

Actually it felt that way to me, too. Last year was a disappointment.

Agreed. Losing to Duke and USF and finishing like we weren't even trying against UGA and Minnesota.....took all the shine off of our solid division finish.

It's likewise difficult to remember we finished fifth in the division in 2016 after beating UGA and winning the Gator Bowl to finish with nine wins.

It was still ridiculous we didn’t crack the Top 25 after beating UgA and KY that year. In years past, 9 wins would ALWAYS get Georgia Tech into the top 25. I believe several coaches and members of the AP never gave us a fair shake.

I think the years you’re thinking of were before schedule expansion, weren’t they?
