Syracuse Football: 4-star WR Bryce Gowdy skips out on Orange
I have no animosity towards Syracuse, but why would anyone with other offers decide to go there? Not being prudish, but that is a damn cold winter

That question comes up a lot from southern fan bases in regards to Michigan and other schools such as Syracuse. Obviously, the winters are not that big of an issue for some. I do a good bit of business in upper NY where people love where they live. I'm with you, and I wouldn't unless I had to.

12 hours later, this Cuse article still starts off with:

Syracuse football just snagged their biggest recruit of the offseason in 4-star WR Bryce Gowdy. Here are all the details and what this means.

Then goes into their lamentations. Dey salty.

Sounds like they’re getting the Tech Treatment.

“We’ve been recruiting him for over two years. We were the first school to offer him.”

I feel your pain, Cuse fans. But I can’t say I feel sorry. It’s nice to be on the other side of the stick for once.

They get more snow annually than any other major U.S. city. I guess if you like cold and snow, Syracuse is the place to be.
And property taxes, which are theft in every state, are outrageous up there. Just a little dinky house is $7K per year.

Their winters vs our summers. Both brutal.

It makes sense when a kid from a northern state chooses a cold area, or even a kid from the south choosing an elite program in a cold area. A 4-star kid from Florida choosing to play for Syracuse isn't going to happen very often though.

Should I go there are post that mebbe it is understandable that a young man with immense talent might prefer passion, intensity, juice, brotherhood, fun, and winning over a snowbank that pretends it is an orange grove?

I prefer 100 degree days to 30 degree days. 80 to 90 degrees is perfect.
You get used to it on both sides. I’ve lived and worked in some pretty harsh winters and I wouldn’t do it until my elder years, but it isn’t too bad otherwise. Sometimes I miss stepping out into new fallen snow, but it is a fleeting feeling. Shoveling it until April isn’t ideal, but 80 degrees and no bugs in the summer is hard to beat.

I missed that they won 10 games last year somehow. Coupla decent wins, especially the bowl game. Good for the conference if they can maintain as a solid program.
