If one or both of the top 2 centers are unavailable this week, why wouldn't we use the long snapper, Jack Coco. He has the necessary size and the ability to snap accurately under pressure.

Long snappers snap with 2 hands and are generally not under any pressure (from the defense) because you can't line up over the long snapper nor can you hit him. Center is totally different.

We'd have to line the QB up 15 yards behind center.

How fast can a DT run 15 yards? That might give the QB more time than our current OL.
Or just punt. Harvin would definitely win the Ray Guy award if we boomed a punt every first down.

Don't know if he's ever done any shotgun snaps though.
Yeah, I don't know that his snaps can be a whole lot worse. As long as he doesn't roll them along the ground, it's probably an improvement TBH.

If you've never done it, shotgun snapping isn't as easy as it looks when you have a guy lined up on you or have gap assignment and have to get the snap off and beat a defender to a spot. These are college level DL also that are (typically) very disciplined to move on ball movement with quickness and explosiveness. It's hard enough for guys that haven't done it in several years, and all likely against high school level competition only. We will certainly come to learn that a veteran center is a high commodity.

Getting the snap off isn’t hard. It’s the recognizing defenses, calling pass pro, run scheme, then blocking someone that’s the hard part. The snap is the easy part.

Whoever is going to play center here out is going to have a huge task. Guards will play a big role too helping them out.

Well that was sort of my point. The actual snap part should be second nature but it's been so long since any of our guys have done it at this level (if at all) then when they have too much else to focus on, the mechanics of the snap get lost.

Can’t we just snap it then flop around on the ground? Just pretend Sewak is still here. I think Graham got one snap that he didn’t have to adjust for last Saturday.

I think we’ll be fine with the upcoming amount of reps. Just pray nobody else gets hurt.
