This was set in motion and predestined the very moment Paul Johnson was hired

I hope the SOB (GC) doesn't sleep a wink tonight! PJ probably sleep like a baby though (:

Yes but we still had more talent on the field than the Citadel. What Paul Johnson didn't have was the juice crew on the sideline acting like fools, defensive players with a total lack of discipline giving the opposition first downs after making a "Money Down" (BS) stop with dead ball penalties or screwing with a kicker that was 9 for 9 on field goals by benching him only to watch his replacement screw the pooch. Against Clemson, CGC called time out right before we ran a sneak to convert on a 4th down then today he does the same thing costing us the winning score.

What I am seeing reminds me of a hire we made several years ago when we hired the head coach from East Carolina. His resume consisted of one good year. All we got was hype and we have plenty of that now.
Be happy we don’t have FSU’s co atch. Will had one good year at USF, and they are a Factory with a chest full of gold and no debt. But still, they have a Willy. Laugh more at free shoes and crab legs.

You’re showing your ignorance if you think CPJ made his “retirement” decision on his own. While he may have not been asked to leave, he’s not a dumbass, and there was no way in hell he was going to have it LOOK like he was fired.
TS let him save face. Which is best for TS.

Lol öööö off

1983 Furman went 10-2, this year Citadel just lost to Towson and Elon. Worst loss in program history.
Yeah, I was at that game. Furman had a All-American RB, Stanford Jennings I believe was the name, that ran all over us. Totally caught us with our knickers down.

Paul Johnson struck fear into the hearts of our opponents to the point of ref tampering, schedule changing, rule changing, and heavy media and negative recruiting attacks.

Geoff Collins will not do this.
I think the rule changing was the worst. The status quo managed to legislate diversity out of the game by damaging option principle football. Paul Johnson changed the game through the fear of others. Ironic that it was part of his demise.

I recall back when we were either considering or had announced the hiring of CPJ a lot of talk about how it would be brutal for whenever he was gone because of the difficulties of rebuilding after 10 years of option ball. This isn’t something that people are coming up with now. This was discussed at length back then.

It was always a half baked theory, and given what happened yesterday is obviously incorrect

How is it half baked? I distinctly recall the concern of what happens when you all of a sudden need TEs, an OL that can pass block, a QB who can read a secondary and throw, and receivers who catch.

The only one of those we have right now are receivers and I’m not quite sure how that happened.

PJ literally put a starting tight end into the league

Yesterday was obviously winnable. The only people that think we have zero talent are CPJ haters with axes to grind.

I saw our WRs not able to get much separation vs FCS CBs.

No argument on the rest. We're trotting out mostly-FCS-recruited talent and getting FCS results.

USF is REALLY terrible.

This is what’s called a “self-fulfilling prophecy.”

We replaced a very competent coach with an unproven head coach. But the unproven coach does things the way football minds want them done (see: George McPhee’s quote about hockey fans knowing the game to get sense of the arrogance these football minds have) so the excuses will come early and often. The heretic has been deposed and now the true repentance can happen.

When you build in an excuse for your failure you tend to fail.
