I was thinking about that as well. No big deal because we may not win another game this year, but ........ this game will be talked about for a long time. At least I hope so. While the Furman loss was embarrassing to the program, they had a better team than Citadel does now. I guess we were at a lower point then because we knew each and every week we were going to lose, while right now some people think we can win a game. IDK but the program right now is pretty dismal. I would highly recommend trying to use Oliver as much as possible - he has some talent.

Same caliber, my ass. We lost 14 out of 22 starters and changed systems and you guys are all like "Well, Johnson won with these guys."
Umm, no he didn't. If these guys were as good as the ones who graduated, they would have started.

Nope. Losing to the Citadel will be with us for time immemorial. It will be referred to in the annals of GT college football history. Just like Furman in 83 and 51-7. This one of the lowest of lows since student built the first bleachers in 1913 on the flats. Yes, it is that ööööing bad.

I hope we'll have new highs to look forward to, but not sure we will under this coach.

Seriously? I had no expectations this season. He inherited a project. I believe in the guy.

I had no expectations of being competitive with Clemson or UGAg. I would like to have seen tough play and good coaching to overcome some of our deficiencies. Didn't even expect to go bowling.
I had every expectation of beating the only FCS team on the schedule. Can't believe we've set the bar so low.

I agree, I just think the word “project” doesn’t approach a proper description of the monumental task he is up against, including a not inconsiderable amount of vitriol he is getting for not having last name Monken. So I cut the man a lot of slack considering what he is facing.
 
After the Citadel debacle, a determination needs to be made as to whether the 'team' made any identifiable improvement from game 2 to game 3. IMO, Tobias Oliver was the loan bright spot. It is obvious that he has a knack for making plays when the ball is in his hands, so the offense needs to incorporate him into the offense more....and I don't mean as a QB running keepers.

If Collins were to either start beating UGA half the time or winning an ACC title, then he gets back to even after yesterday.

Otherwise, he deserves to reminded constantly of that smelly turd laid yesterday.

Improvement over 1 week? What improvement do you expect with less than a handful of practice days?

I'm the one asking the question. Is this team improving week to week...not remaining stagnan , nor digressing. If there are NO positives to speak of on a weekly basis, then there are bigger problems than just lack of talent. Coaches are hired to improve the performance of the existing talent. If something is not improving, even in a terrible loss, then there are internal problems that need to be addressed.

I'm not asking as a fan to fan interaction on a message board. It's more of an assessment that the coaches need to answer.

Remember all of those CPJ games where the team didn’t show up and either got by on the skin of our nuts or lost to vastly inferior teams?

Yeah? Well that attitude of not being focused against easy win teams apparently still infects this team. That, combined with a glaring talent deficiency, gets you a game like yesterday. Yes, there were coaching failures. Yes, there are talent issues. Yes, our team went in thinking it was a guaranteed win. All parties should be ashamed.

I understand. I would still say that expecting a marked improvement in 1 week is expecting a bit much. Even expecting something discernible is a reach. I will say that two weeks should see the elimination of these crazy unsportsmanlike penalties. Heck, that alone could have been the difference between a W and L.

But let’s be reasonable. Bigger problems than lack of talent? Our lack of talent ABSOLUTELY IS the biggest problem we have. And expecting CGC to be able to affect marked improvement week over week with the talentless players he inherited is expecting too much under this offensive scheme. Unless he be required to scrap his own offense and reinstall the option, we just won’t see anything measurable as improvement. And changing offenses at this point is out of the question.
 
Its not just all the lost starters. We have something like only 11 seniors on scholarship. More freshman and sophomores than juniors and seniors.
