Sitting out

Bowl games seem to be more meaningless than ever. Only the playoff truly matters.
Bingo. This is a side effect of the playoffs. There was a press conference where Nick Saban says as much outright. It’s a shame, really. I also think the playoff helps the top handful of teams further separate themselves on the recruiting trail.

Other than the CFP’s tonight, I’ve yet to watch one bowl game start-to-finish -over half of them I haven’t even watched at all.

When 2 6-loss teams are playing for the Idaho Yukon Potatoes Bowl trophy and there are exactly 40 bowl games...is anyone truly surprised that the playoffs garner more attention?

Maybe the problem isn't the playoffs but the ever expanding litany of meaningless bowl games.

They could make it interesting by having the games in exotic locations and including Survivor themed competitions for prizes or advantages in the game.

The entire universe is expanding. You look out into the night sky at that apparent void, do you think that's just the color of the sky? You think it's just empty space? No. Your eyes can't see them and your mind can't make sense of them, but it's all bowls. Nearly all of the galaxies we can see are accelerating away from us, but that inky blackness, the bowls, they're hurtling towards us at speeds our brains can't even comprehend because only a tiny fraction of the population belongs to the SEC. You think having 40 meaningless bowls is bad? Even the unfathomable number of them currently racing towards our planet, our cities, our stadiums, to take our corporate sponsors - this is nothing compared to the ultimate, terrible truth of our material reality. You ever wonder what's out there at the end of it all? At the edge of the end of all things? You ever hear the term CMB?

The hardest truth, my very dear friend, is that we live in the Cosmic Microwave Bowl. It has no end, and we are all eligible. Forever.

Yeah but I don't see 75,000 people paying a couple of hundred bucks a pop to watch the universe expand either.

Y'all are crazy. Zero reason to risk the payday of a lifetime on playing to be the Shreveport bowl champs.
If this is your line of thought, why play at all? It became obvious weeks ago that Miami wasn't going to win the Coastal - why not just sit out then? The bowl game counts just as much as those games.

Ed Oliver did that last year where he sat out 4 games at the end of the season then the bowl game. He claimed it was an injury, but it was widely reported otherwise.

Houston had an interesting thing happen this year, too, where Senior QB D'Eriq King decided to sit out the rest of 2019 after Houston started 1-3 so he could redshirt and play in 2020.

Great questions, every player will have his own answers them. I know if I was playing to financially support my family by making it to the league, "suiting up with my boys" wouldn't be all that important to me. If my family was rich as hell to begin with, I'd probably be a lot more interested in the glory and brotherhood. Iiwii.
