Any chance Jordan Usher could transition to TE on the football team? He has the size to create match up problems. If so, how many years of eligibility would he have for football?

At 6-foot-7 and a muscular 220 pounds, it’s not difficult to imagine the junior as a tight end. In fact, Collins has, taking his concept of position flexibility to a new height.

“I think one of the first times I saw him, I thought, ‘Man, he’d be a great tight end or receiver,’ but I’m glad he’s playing basketball for us, and playing at a really high level,” said Collins, who similarly gushed over Usher during a cameo appearance of the Fox Sports South broadcast of the N.C. State game.

The two have joked in the cafeteria at the Edge Center about Usher playing in the spring game. While recognizing that it’s joking, Collins said that “I would never discourage it” if Usher actually had interest.

Not only does Usher have size, but the dude is lightning fast for someone with that size. And has tons of energy. He's not going to be an NBA player, but he could possibly have a career in the NFL.

I was googling him a bit and I see that Usher shot 40% from beyond the arc his freshman year at USC. Wow, we could really use some of that, as he's shooting <20% with us.

He'd need to put on about 30 pounds. Most of the Bball > TE players were Power Foward/Post players. Usher looks like a Guard.
That wouldn't be a problem with his frame I don't think.

If he started working out with the football team and strength coaches as soon as the basketball season ends, he could probably add at least 20 pounds and learn the playbook by the start of the season. I agree that he has a better shot at the NFL than the NBA. If he makes the transition, our offense would have a viable downfield and goal line threat at TE.

He still has potential to play professionally overseas and could set himself up for life.

He wasn't playing vs. ACC competition at USC.

Usher should be able to play both sports next year. The compensation to the basketball team is that they gain a scholarship. Hopefully we can add a grad transfer big man.
